How does the 2 hand controlling work?

Post » Sat Jul 30, 2011 5:35 am

So, in Skyrim we can select items for both of our hands.

But usually in PC games you use the left mouse button for items on the right hand. FPS games usually have all the weapons in the right side of the screen and same goes for Skyrim probably if you just use a shield in your left hand and a sword in your right hand. I mean you will still use the LMB for the sword (which is actually in your right hand). Will you not?

What happens if you get 2 swords or 2 spells. Will the mouse buttons suddenly be reversed or will you use the left button for the right hand and the right button for the left hand?

The consoles don't have this problem, because usually the right trigger is used for shooting (in FPS) and so on.

So how did it work there? If I just equip one weapon in my right hand (on the right hand side of the screen like in Oblivion) will I have to use the second mouse button for attacking?

Left Mouse Button (Left Hand) for Clicking like mad in Attacking and Right Mouse Button (Right Hand) for doing the same, or Right Mouse for holding it in when using a Shield in Defense

So what you are saying that the default weapon is held by the left hand? In other TES games we always had sword in the right and shield in the left or whatever. And if we just used one-handed then it was always in the right.

Good question, yeah I imagine it will be switched with right handed actions being rmb and left handed be left. I didn't really think about it but that would be the most intuitive way to do it now that dual-wielding is a main feature in combat. It might be confusing at first if you're used to the "classic" controls but we will adapt quickly I'm sure.

Hopefully it's how it has always been. LMB triggers right hand, RMB triggers left hand. Just makes sense from a typical gaming perspective. Maybe not from a typical direction perspective lol, but we're using an index finger and middle finger, not two index fingers (like on console controllers), so it should be how it is classically used.

Edit: To above post I would view it as counter-intuitive since that's not what the typical layout is.

to each their own, it would be intuitive to me because this is a game with multiple actions for each hand. Most games that use any kind of dual-wielding only have two options, attack or block and attack is typically associated with the left mouse button and block for the right. Now in skyrim you can attack with each hand, there isn't a persistent block mechanism attached to the right mouse button, so in this case why would you reverse controls just to conform to a design function that doesn't fit the design of the game?
