Hi folks,
I've recently been getting back into PC gaming after what seems like a lifetime, and with the lack of games so far on next-gen consoles I thought I would have a crack at building a PC instead. Most of the games I'll be playing are older ones (I have a lot to catch up on), but I'd like to be able to run Skyrim with HD textures and to be able to play upcoming games like Wasteland 2 and Star Citizen at a decent standard. I used to be fairly knowledgeable about computers in the early-mid nineties, but I'm afraid technology has very much passed me by. And so I turn to you, enlightened board members, for advice.
This is what I'm thinking of:
CPU: Intel Core i-5-4670K Quad Core
GPU: Nvidia GTX 760 2GB GDDR5
RAM: 8GB 1600MHz DDR3
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z87-HD3 Intel Z87 Express
PSU: 600W 80+ Bronze Modular Power Supply
All of these components should be compatible because I copied them from a pre-built system which turned out, on investigation, to be massively overpriced. Obviously I've left out some stuff like the cooler, case and storage, but I've worked out I can put it together (with everything) for around £700. So, on the whole, any thoughts/recommendations? I'm not at all bothered about achieving 60fps on ultra settings for everything, but as I said I would like to be able to run newer games at a decent standard and I would like it to be as future proof as possible. Please bear in mind that I do not have unlimited funds and so any recommendations for replacement parts should be of a similar price.
I await your sage advice,
Per Ardua.
