How to download from Nexus and is it safe?

Sorry if I'm coming of like a noob an such, but how do you download stuff from nexus and get it to work on Skyirm?

Plus, is it safe (eg: no viruses or mess up my game?)

First you need to get comfortable and familiarized with sound mod user techniques.

This is a great place to start... http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL20E326325BADAE44

While growing rather dated, the first of this series is beneficial as well... http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL96C073B0B8BFC01D

Lastly, hit the report button and ask a mod to move this to the mod forum.

I used to get mods for Oblivion on the nexus and never got any viruses. As a rule, if it has plenty of downloads you can safely assume that they don't give you viruses, though I guess some really malicious users can incorporate some viruses but I'm not entirely sure.

Make an account in Nexus and then install Nexus Mod Manager. The Manager makes it much easier to install and uninstall mods. It also tells you when a newer version of a mod is available in Nexus.

I haven't found any viruses from Nexus files, but like with any files you download from the internet you should be careful what you download and run.
Some mods may mess up your game if they're poorly done or badly conflict with other mods you install. Also once you have installed mods you shouldn't uninstall a lot of them unless you plan to start a new game. Some mods have specific safe uninstall instructions.

In short, mods are just data files for the game and can not contain viruses, Second if you download popular mods someone would have noticed. Bad mods also get noted,
Main problem with mods is mod conflicts, two mods who tries to modify the same thing.

Do you'r homework and research more and more.

I ran so many mods, that so many profiles got messed up, and others did not. Why? because i did not pay attention.

Some mods have scripts, which means the moment you install a mod and save a game with that mod, you are stuck with that mod till the end. Some exceptions of such mods, include how to stop the scripts in the console to safely uninstall the mod, again some.

With that said, it is always a good idea to back up the profile before installing mods, so you can test the mod as you wish with no fear.

With that said, i ran over 90 mods on one profile, weapons, armor, texture and re-texture packs, immersion, weather, lighting, followers etc.

There is no problem when running so many mods, just make sure that mods are compatible with other mods (always read the description), and scripted mods that may require "special" procedure to uninstall (just a console command).

But no, with over 1,000 hours in Skyrim, i have yet to face a virus. Skyrim Nexus is trustworthy and no issues from them at all.

all mods are safe as in no viruses. The only exception is Someone put a virus file inside(exe file, and tells you to double click it). But normally data files from nexus, vgu, tesalliance, darkcreations, LL all work fine.

However the NONsafe part(besides some shifty exe files) is, always read what you install. Scripted mods can cause problems if conflicted or uninstalled(e.g. uninstalling frostfall the wrong way). It is not recommended to uninstall mods.

Step 1.Sign up
Step 2: Search for mods you like
Step 3: Click "download"
Step 4: Extract to Skyrim/Data

Nexus Mod Manager is hugely unnecessary, unless you don't know what folders are, and yes, Nexus is safe. But always scan everything. That's just good internet habits.

Good luck uninstalling those mods six months later. The best thing about NMM is that it allows you to install or uninstall any mod with a simple double-click action and it remembers when you override one mod's files with another.

Stuff from the Nexus is mostly incapable of infecting your computer anyway (just game data files and .esp files for use by the Skyrim main executable). Some downloadables contain standalone .exe files (as is their purpose) but I've never gotten any cooties from using them.

Nexus takes itself quite seriously. They will never intentionally infect its userbase with any crap.

That is horrible advice. Especially to anyone just starting to entertain the idea of using mods.

No matter what one decides to use, it is imperative they only install mods using one of the several managers.( NMM, BAIN.. or even just using Steam Workshop)

Any file that goes in the Data folder should be installed using a manager. I couldn't possibly stress that enough.

It's horrible advice if you assume the OP is a moron, but anyone with half a brain can right click a rar file, extract it, and paste it in the Data folder.

It's not rocket science, and anyone who claims that mods are somehow difficult to install is being incredibly patronising.

Skyrim mods work exactly like Sims 3 mods (as in, extract, paste in folder), and my mother, who is so computer-illiterate that she needs help changing a font in Word can manage that much when she downloads Sims mods.
