How durable will Brink be?

This is definitely aimed at the Devs (should they ever read this).

I enjoyed Borderlands immensely and, as I'm sure you know, it shares some similarity to Brink in that its a co-op FPS/RPG hybrid.

The problem with borderlands is that even with all the DLC its really a short game My buddies and I tore through it all to max level more than once. more than a few times, actually. But in the end, we stopped playing because it wasn't fun any more. We'd seen it all, done it all and in a relatively short time. I think it took us three to 5 nights to do a complete playthrough from original content to and through all of the DLC.

Brink looks like a far better game and we cannot wait to play it.

My questions, though, are these: What are you doing to make the game durable? What will keep us playing for many months? How will restarting the game as a new character lead to a different gaming experience? How will the injection of DLC or expansions make the game feel longer or deeper rather than feeling like we've dipped back into the game for mini episodes?

These are just questions I'd love for the devs to ponder as they prepare what is sure to be a smash hit game -one I hope is a favorite for months or years to come of continued gameplay. If any devs do read this, please address this issue in a blog some day, many of us are very curious as to what direction you're taking in regards to this.

It's an online game, therefore the game's life is extended significantly compared to if it were solely single player. Borderlands was primarily a single player game with no competitive values, thus it did not offer much replay value compared to a competitive game.

If borderlands is a large basis for your expectations towards brink I think you'll be let down. It's less about massive amounts of crap (finding guns and so forth) and leveling and more about the actual experience of the combat, The teamwork. And so forth.

BRINK is NOT anywhere close to an RPG. (Also there are no RPGs in BRINK.)

Brink is a hardcoe PvP FPS with a splash of RPG elements, Borderlands was a PvE RPG with guns. I really don't see much comparison.

When I saw the title of the thread. I imagined the game disc being dropped from tall buildings and then checked for cracks.

Ive seen tests like that done for consoles, but never games. My favorite was an article where a guy was grabbing controllers by the cord and whipping them against a wall. If i remember correctly, the large Xbox controller won.

Those original xbox controllers had a lot of heavy duty rubber in them. I'm not suprised at all. Shadowcat. I don't think I'll be affording a PC by the time Brink comes out by the way which svcks big time. Unless people want to send all their extra parts to my house so I can put it together for free or something.

Well, if the game is balanced, and fun, and not full of things that make people ''WHAT THE [censored]'', ''WHY IS THERE NOTHING TO COUNTER THIS?!'', ''WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT'', ''ARRRGHH, FUUUUCK, HNNGG, SHIIIT'', then the game will be durable.

If the community is good, and not total jackasses, the game will get some +durability.

Even if the games population dies, there will always be some people left that plays, I mean, Gears of War 1 still has matches going on, Halo 3, Borderlands, heck I would'nt be surprised if BrĂ¼tal Legend still has players playing online.

I was gonna include ''Modern Warfare 2'' but that does'nt count, it got over 200.000 players still playing, even with Black Ops being out, so it's far from dead.
