How do I edit vanilla NPC face textures?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:15 am

I've been trying to make a mod that revamps all NPC's appearances. I have hit a wall when it comes to adjusting the individual face texture using the individual NPC Edit window > Face Advanced tab > Control Type: Texture. When I select a part of the face to adjust and change the value, nothing happens to the face. Though I noticed it changes the skin on the ears and body. So, it is working, just not on the face. Sometimes it seems like it is about to work, the color tweaks for a second but then reverts. It seems like this is either a rendering issue with my computer, a bug I've encountered in CS, or simply an option that I need to turn on/off. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

This mod is going to be an awesome NPC visual overhaul.. if I can just get the CS to cooperate! :banghead: Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

I ran into this problem once. As a small part of a mod, I made a few changes that should have produced a significant visual difference, but it didn't appear to. When I encountered the NPC in game, the changes were there. When I checked back in the CS, the changes were there too. That's only happened to me once, though. Try making a few test NPCs with no AI, make changes to their appearances (and document them), place them in game and see if the changes show up.

Edit: I should have mentioned that the "changes" were done to a custom NPC.

NPC face colors are "locked" - they don't actually use those settings, they use premade textures specific to each NPC.

You need http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10811 to unlock them in order to edit them successfully.

Good to know. I've never bothered trying to change the facial colors of Vanilla NPCs, just new ones I've created. It never occured to me that the Vanilla ones might be hard coded.

This also was driving me nuts thanks Luch.

I wondered why I could edit the Face textures of the defualt SE characters and not the non SE characters.
