How-To: Export or generate a list of installed mods

Post » Sun Sep 30, 2012 6:05 pm

Apologies if this has been discussed to death already, but I didn't find any real answers after a search. I use Nexus Mod Manager for all my mods, and I'm looking for a way to export or generate a list of my installed mods & load order. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this with NMM, so I was hoping someone knew of a different utility or method for generating a list of installed mods. I've also posted a suggestion on the NMM forums that they add this feature.

Wrye bash/smash has that feature.

In the hidden directory C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Skyrim the hidden file plugins.txt contains a complete list of all active plugins. Of course you could also just look at all the .esp files in your skyrim/data directory too. But as mentioned before Wrye bash is the easiest if you want to do it without messing with windows explorer. I wouldn't be surprised if Mod Organizer could do something similar as well, but it's been a while since I used it.

Yes, I've found plugins.txt to be quite handy for editing load order or exporting a list of installed mods, as I don't use any utilities other than the vanilla Skyrim launcher.

Also useful for testing specific mods, as you can make multiple backup copies of plugins.txt with alternate load orders and simply replace the text to add all your mods again.
