How is Fallout 1 and 2 cannon? FEV Virus origins?

I'd take Mothership Zeta over Honest Hearts, but I'd take Lonesome Road over Operation Anchorage too. Both of the recent Fallout games have had missfires. All of the dlc had varying degree's of issues. I doubt it'll matter in the long run regardless, Aliens or no.

To me something isn't canon until we see it again in another game. The Ghost in Fallout 2 was never mentioned again, ghosts in general, unless you count the Dunwich Building

I guess to you "if it is made it's canon." I am not trying to be a dike that is an honest question.

You seem to defend the idea that if it was a bad 1950s movie it's ok to be put into Fallout. And the "Oh it's a game don't take it seriously" is also an annoying argument. Why can't games tell a serious story? why can't they be taken seriously? I take Fallout seriously and so do alot of other people. I am for humor, I am for easter eggs and for fun DLC.

Wild Wasteland was put in the game to prevent all the people who just don't understand the difference between Easter Egg and Canon. Cause there are alot of people who think "well it was made it's canon!" It was also made because alot of people didn't like the humor of Fallout 2.

Mothership Zeta, if it was never mentioned again in a a future game. Not hints to it no nothing, I would be happy cause to me it would mean it wasn't canon and not to be taken seriously like the Ghost in Fallout 2. It was there we saw it and it will never be mentioned again. I would be happy.

But it would be even better if Bethesda just said it we as fans would never have to worry about it again. Cause as I said before there's so much more they could do with it, all of it bad but hey they made MZ in the first place. The only thing I think that would keep them from mentioning it again in a future game is the amount of anger it created.

Throw it down the memory hole and not continue with it.

Dunwich buiding btw. has a glowing one and no REAL ghost. It's more creative and better written as the FO2 ghost quest.

In your description of the wild wasteland perk you answer the question about Zeta yourself.

About canon: As I said in my initial post. I go mostly with Bethesda. If it's mentioned in the next game and has significance then it is canon. (How often I have to repeat myself here? I don't consider MZ as canon!)

I simply find it sad that people don't understand that Fallout had always the tradition to play with this elements and having fun with it. There is no need to take away giant footprints, the tardis, ... and hide them in the closet.

It's a method that allows you tell sad and serious stories without making a depressing game. For me this is one of the core elements of Fallout.

MZ created anger by you (and a specific group of people who mostly don't like FO3 at all) not by me. Finding a dead Alien in Fallout 4 who hugs a robotic horse (the child toy that the "serious" Aliens in MZ collected) would make me laugh and I would consider it as a great reference. But I already see the thousend of posts "THEY DID IT AGAIN! MZ destroyed Fallout forever!!!".

Ok then we agree on that point and it is a key point.

What we disagree on (I think) is would it matter if it was mentioned again, if it was continued. I would care greatly if it was, I don't think you would. Agree to disagree on that.

Also it's more than just me and a small group of people who don't like MZ. As I have been saying there are alot of people including myself that don't mind aliens in Fallout so long as they are a minor part to the point that they might not even be there at all. Such as UFO reports like the one in Fallout 3. Again that would be like something right out of Project Blue Book. That was great work. But they jumped the shark big time by making MZ.

I am not saying remove that stuff either. I am saying that they shouldn't be considered canon. That Star Trek and Dr. Who aren't actually apart of the series. Just like the crashed UFO in Fallout wasn't meant to be taken seriously, it was humor. One of the aliens even has a painting of Elvis. "Return to Area 51 if found" It is a joke.

The problem is people see that crashed ship and go "aliens have always been apart of Fallout so stop hating on MZ!" Again it was a joke. I get it was a joke, so do alot of others, some people don't and I find that sad.

Agreed, I enjoyed hallucinations in Fallout 3. But some would argue the Dunwich Building does have a hint of the supernatural. But I guess that is another debate and I don't care.

So why post "I hate MZ. It destroys the lore! Look at the holodisc!" instead of "Hey it seems you don't get the joke here. Maybe you should watch "Plan 9 of outer space" sometimes"? To these people.

Most people get it. But what makes me angry is what all this "MZ destroys the lore" had lead to. Hiding this element of the game behind closed doors and warning me with an annoying sound so I know that I have to laugh. It's like the developers want to say me "Hey! I know you are not able to get jokes.". It's emberassing.

Cause I have become bitter over the years having been involved in so many of these debates. I started out saying it's simply a joke but that fell on deaf ears. Having to explain what an easter egg is over and over again. I have a knee jerk reaction now to this topic... so yeah sorry for being a dike was not my intent.

But I do believe it should be clearly stated that it wasn't intened to be canon to remove any chance that something like it could happen again. I would hate to boot up Fallout 4 for the first time and run into aliens trying to take over the darn place. We have no idea if Bethesda will or will not continue with it. All we are really going on is "they can't be that stupid to do it again."

If they wanted to make another DLC like MZ and clearly said "hey this is for fun people enjoy." I would be ok with it. Again humor and for fun DLC's I am ok with. Aliens overrunning Fallout I am very much against, I worry it could happen and be meant as serious.
