How far back into TES do you go?

Post » Sat Mar 26, 2011 6:18 am

Let's see, so many topics, arguments, speculation, hardcoes, casuals, PC and Console gamers... so many clever, innovative, wild, funny or moon-sugary suggestions!

But, how much do you know The Elder Scrolls after all? Have fun!

Edit: Thanks everyone for replying! It's good to have some 'hive' memories about the TES universe, and it was interesting to see that number of PnP and MSDOS players, and how many started with Morrowind. I've made some brief replies in page 7.

About me, i've started with a long anticipation for Morrowind as PC gaming was growing on me, catching magazines for bits of info and dazzling screenshots, and after an eternal wait that lasted like a century, when all hope was seemingly lost : P the game finally arrived. We forgot about our lives for a couple of years, me and my younger brother and up until today the game comes up quite frequently. I remember the day Bethesda first teased Oblivion and eagerly awaited for it and head-goes-crack again. Amazed. Many things were so much better but overall the immersion had something missing, but anyway after a couple times i messed up my pc, i left it until recently. Almost got Daggerfall a couple of times but i always had some other newer rpgs at hand so, it's a pending matter still. So... again after finishing Oblivion it was a long wait for TES V but here we are at last!

I started to play OB since my father made me(yes I'm quite young=17) and a year ago or so I started to play MW and I loved it. I guess I'm a hardcoe player since I think OB was to dumbed down compared to MW.

I've been playing ever since I got the demo for Daggerfall in my PC Gamer subscription. I played Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and will play Skyrim.

As far as hard core, I don't play pen and paper RPG's but I want to feel like I'm in the game itself. I want to have to think and react. I guess I'm a step down from Pen and Paper.

Well. My first TES game was Oblivion, which is to this day my most favorite game of all time.
Eventually I played Morrowind, which also was great.
Currently I'm playing through Arena for the first time, and am loving it. After I finish it I am planning to play, Daggerfall, Battlespire and Redguard.
Afterwards I'll maybe play Morrowind and Oblivion again. :)

I've bought (and played obviously) Arena, Daggerfall, Battlespire, Redguard, Morrowind, Tribunal, Bloodmoon, Stormhold, Dawnstar, Shadowkey, Oblivion, Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles. The only TES related title I don't have is Oblivion mobile.

Anyway, started with Arena and if the game was released for PC, I played it on the PC. And I consider myself as casual in this poll, cause I rather like fast-travel as Arena was impossible to play without it.

I started with Daggerfall, bought Morrowind then I bought Arena, Redguard and Battlespire on Ebay. Purchased Oblivion as well, of course. So I played and own them all. :P (At least, all of the titles released on PC. I do not own any of the mobile titles)

I got into the series with Oblivion, but have gone back and played all 4 main titles. I play on PC. Not sure about "hardcoe", but I love the series to death.

I'm proud to say that Oblivion was my first TES experience.
That is of no offense to anyone who thinks otherwise- but I don't think previous games really do the world justice.
Tbh If i want to see anything - youtube is my history teacher (disclaimer: this is not a recommended study tactic or tutoring method)
An pleasurable experience does have a large looks factor. (eg- you would not try to chat up an 80 year old munter)
Althought I'm not thinking of picking morrowind up- mainly because the combat looks a lot more floaty and out of control (I stand to be corrected on this).

But then again Oblivion was my introduction that a game like this was even possible. I look forward to every open-world RPG, (ESPECIALLY TES) in the future.

and nice of you to sneak a general discussion thread in ;)

As expected, Morrowind was the grand beginning for most, just like me :wavey:

EDIT: Also played Tribunal, Bloodmoon, Oblivion and Shivering Isles. I feel no urge to go "back in time" for Daggerfall or Arena.

I played Morrowind for over a year straight and then played Daggerfall (got it on ebay). Most people here would more than likely consider me a casual gamer but the greater world considers me a hardcoe gamer. I just consider myself someone who enjoys playing and talking about games.

I loved Daggarfall, loved Morrowind and loved Oblivion. That goes for each and every Fallout game and yes that includes the first two. Hell, I even loved the Harry Potter games and I love Wii bowling. It's quite hard for me to think of one I have not enjoyed in some way if I played it.

I don't tend to enjoy tearing games apart bit by bit to find technical issues that disturb me. I of course do know what things appeal to me most but if I get my hands on a game, I will most likely take it for a spin and I will find something to enjoy.

That said, TES are my favorite games of all.

Started with Daggerfall, then went back to play Arena as soon as it was free.

On the hardcoe level I love to play PnP RPGs

Mainly I play on PC, but it doesn't really matter much to me.
(Though I dislike using a Joypad for first person games)

I bought Oblivion as I bought my Xbox 360 late 2008 since I love RPGs and I'd heard it's supposed to be just awesome. BUT, even before playing Oblivion, I played Arena on DosBox in December 2008 before playing Oblivion feb-july 2009! I was hardcoe before even knowing I was going to get hooked! :D

Then I played Daggerfall sept-dec 2009 and Morrowind mar-june 2010. And I'm looking to charge up with Redguard, Battlespire, HELL, EVEN THE MOBILE TRAVEL SERIES! before immersing myself in the wonderful universe called TES with SKYRIM!

I just wish Beth would release Redguard and Battlespire so we all can get even more hardcoe! It's already been more than 10 years, it's about time!

Started with Morrowind, but I've played Daggerfall (and Oblivion) since then.

I could be considered ultra-hardcoe - I started with lots of fantasy fiction and pen & paper at a young age, but more focused on wargames (Rogue Trader/2nd ed. 40k and 3rd ed. Warhammer Fantasy Battle), as well as combat cards, scenario design, short stories, lore study, etc. And I'm pretty mental about roleplaying, by most standards. But I'm quite casual about these things, in the sense that nothing's ever worth more than having fun with it. And in TES games my play style varies from ultra-heavy roleplay to messing around and general hacking & slashing. I broke your poll!

Third one's easy: PC.

Started with Morrowind, played Arena and Daggerfall after. Read through the storylines of the other games.
hardcoe, though my pen and paper experience is sadly limited. Mod a lot, though.
PC only.

Pretty much like my joining date gives away : Morrowind. Picked it by sheer accident, too. Funny.

That "hardcoe" word puts me to some trouble : wouldn't qualify myself so. Since I end up agreeing with most of the survival and immersion suggestions, though, I guess I might be an casual settler in hardcoe land, somehow.

... Aaaaand PC. Can't do without mods. Or the console *Bethesdabugscoughcough*.:P

Oblivion first. It was a huge succes so ofcause i had to try Morrowind aswell. When Bethesda released Daggerfall for free, i was ready to try that aswell but sadly i was never able to make it work. I would consider myself hardcoe and i am mainly a console gamer but i actually consider to get Skyrim for PC, asumming it won't require Steam or i am able to live with the DRM.

Morrowind was my first Elder Scrolls game, I loved it (even though Iwas rather young when it came out well im still young haha (14). I then bought Oblivion when it came out and liked it too. I have pen and paper experience I play a weekley game of D&D with some friends. I do not consider myself hardcoe or casual but somwhere in between, but I cose hardcoe in the poll.
