How do we feel about the empire being gone?

Post » Tue Nov 02, 2010 4:49 pm

Will they be missed? Were they a positive or a negative force in the universe? What will it be like to live in a world dominated by nords? Those of us who played Bloodmoon remember that they are quite peculiar and distrusting of strangers.

The empire still stands They aren't gone... just not what was under the Septims.

Nords are hardly in a place to dominate anything when they are fighting themselves + Dragons + the worlds supposed to end? the only super powers capable of taking Tamriel now are the Redguard and some kind of resurrection of the Aldmeri Dominion...which is pretty much limited to Altmer and Bosmer atm lol

The solsthiem Nords were a splinter group and backwards people, they don't represent the thousands of years long standing Province that is Skyrim and its people

A (game)world dominated by nords.

Will the empire appear in the game then?

I love the Empire. In my opinion, they should rebuild and reconquer everyone. Destroying all pathetic hopes for freedom and liberty and snatching victory tfrom the fetid jaws of the "provinces". For the Empire!

The Empire still exists, and there will be Nords in favour of it still.

I'd imagine the Imperials still hold onto the provinces of Highrock, Hammerfell, and parts of Skyrim. Just an assumption from the information I know so far.

Wasn't the old Empire more about keeping order than conquering?

I'm very interested to see how the Empire looks as of Skyrim. We might have a better idea once the next novel is out. If it's born from a legacy from the protagonists of that book it's probably a more goodly Empire. If not it's a big question mark.

I like that the Empire outlawed slavery. What's interesting is whether or not I support the empire is basically the polar opposite of your reason, though parallel in some ways. I want the Empire in control to keep order and enforce freedoms like the ban on slavery.

I very much think the Aldmeri Dominion will be a grave threat down the road too, for the simple reason that its goal is not the good of all races, not even the good of all mer races, but instead its goal is the dominion of the Altmer over all of Tamriel. It's quite a villainous situation in my opinion, and a revitalized Empire would provide a counter to its power.

Black Marsh is a big question mark, and I suspect the second book will reveal more.

Spoiler
But if I remember the first book right it seems like some not-so-nice rogue Hist may have taken control of the Argonian society. I don't remember though.

I think Elswyer would be more worried about its internal issues but lots of time passed since The Infernal City.

I would vote for a bolsjewiek revolution but that is me.

I might understand that a powerfull king like Helseth of Morrowind might have taken over the throne ...

Speaking in terms of its impact on the lives of the people in the setting, I see the Empire as a positive force, because it brought some degree of unity to Tamriel, despite what the Empire's opposition would have you think, lack of authority really does not ensure freedom, at least not for all, usually it just means people start violating each other's freedom and it inevitably degrades into a comparing of spears, with only the guy with the biggest spear having absolute freedom while everyone else must submit to him, at least until someone with a bigger spear comes along, and as far as those with big spears go, the Empire seems to be one of the more decent authorities that I've observed in Tamriel's history. But from a narrative standpoint, what's best for the character's in the setting isn't always what makes the best stories. In this case, removing the Empire or weakening its influence would certainly bring some major changes to the setting, and it's hard to say what Bethesda would do with that, and whether those changes are positive or negative will depend on how Bethesda takes advantage of the oportunity for change. What I can say is that the decline of the Empire is an oportunity for Bethesda to make some fairly major changes to the status quo of the setting, and that could turn out to be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what direction Bethesda takes it in.

btw a 'interval republic' is sure out of the question ? ...even brittain used to be a republic for a short while and the netherlands did have his glory days during a 'trade republic', btw republic doesn't mean democratic at all, let makes that clear, just not being ruled by a monarch like the empire, but more by a consul like Ocato ...

While my goodie two-shoes personality would love a Republic I have a feeling it might be too radical a change for the series? I've actually considered if they'd have the end of Skyrim bring the birth of a Republic. It would be kind of funny seeing a Republic born from a conflict of Skyrim of all places. I don't think that would happen though.

I asked in the Lore Forum the 'book', says something about a new ruling family taken over power in the Empire ... Ofcourse this doesn't say anything, on the other hand I would love to see some lore in Skyrim (when I am going to play it), about what happend after the oblivion crisis ... Hope the Devs are working on that ...

We won't know anything more until the second part comes out in the late summer. Some of the protagonists in the book could steer the Empire in an honorable direction, but there's no guarantee that by the end of the second part they will be in any position to do so.

Yea. The original Empire was more of keeping order. But that was the old Empire. I personally dislike anything "benevolent". I wouldn't go as far a calling it evil, because thats a word used by the ignorant and the weak. The Empire in the ES should match the Empire in Star Wars(Yes, Sith Empire and Galactic Empire).

The only ones really set to conquer would be the argonians. They already have Morrowind.

The only thing I'm really hoping for is that future events involve the Aldmeri Dominion, and thus bring us to Summerset Isle in game six. I've been wanting to visit that place since Morrowind, and if it doesn't happen in the next game, well, I don't see myself sticking around too long after that. I rarely play as an Altmer, but that's only because the magic system in Morrowind is so lacking, even with mods, and I would really love a game centering on them, where they are the big focus, they're the showcase, it's their turn in the spotlight. Bethesda's learned quite a bit about magic systems in games, and that has me very excited at the prospect of visiting the Altmer homeland, because at this point I'm sick of being a tank all the time in games just to have fun.

I'd like to visit Summerset Isle just to invade all the forbidden places that the more arrogant Altmer don't want the "lower" races poking around in. Imagine the reaction of the high and mighty Altmer to finding fur strands left behind in the deepest corners of their monuments to arrogance. :celebration:
