How do I fix my friend?

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 9:09 pm

He is preaching Oblivion is the best game ever, because it doesn't end when you complete the main quest, like FO3 does, I am trying to convince him to play Morrowind. Can I fix him, or must I pray to the Tribunal and the Nine both and hope they have mercy on this poor pilgrim's soul?

I'd tell him to get Broken Steel, it opens up the ending of Fallout 3.

As for Morrowind, if he enjoys the open world of Oblivion so much I don't know why he'd be hesitant to play Morrowind.

As for "fixing," I wouldn't suggest your friend is broken simply because he has different tastes than you do.

Meh, not that he has different tastes, it is just semi-irritating during conversations about Morrowind hearing, "OMG YOU SHOULD SO TRY OBLIVION 100,000,000,000x BETTER!"

Now granted I think this friend of mine came from the Shivering Isles, but not the point.

Heres how:
step 1. Invite him over to your house.
Step 2. have tea
step 3. show him morrowind. Explain the whole you can play after mq thing.
step 4. see what happens.

Haha, at first I thought you were talking about some else. I personally wouldn't go around fixing my friends. :)

Either way, there isn't much to be done. It's just a game, and if he wants to try it, he will, and he doesn't, he doesn't have to. I would personally leave it alone. If you prod him enough to the point of trying it, he may dislike it anyway since he didn't play it of his own accord.

I'd say the ultimate fix is ACCEPT that some people have different tastes instead of trying to force your views on them.

One of my best friends is very intelligent and insightful, often willing to try new things, but his reasoning for not liking Morrowind is the "clunky combat system". :stare:

Most overused excuse ever.

Yeah I loved morrowind too but that combat system didn't feel like combat. More like I was threatening to hit my enemy with my big ol' axe.

But it does have a clunky combat system. Along with other flaws that make Oblivion better mechanically. But it's all in taste.

All the points that could be argued for and against those games, and he's going with "it doesn't end?" That's not exactly new. I don't remember the last level of Tetris.

A majority of single player RPGs are built around their storyline, and either end, or repeat themselves at a higher difficulty once you finish the storyline.

A majority of single player RPG's have no reason to keep going because they are built around their storyline. There's nothing else to do. TES games are open-world sandbox games, but that concept isn't new with them either. I'm just saying, "this genre is different from what I'm used to!" isn't really the best grounds for proclaiming a game the best ever.

First off, I'm sure Zalphon was just paraphrasing his friend. Even if he wasn't, Im sure that his friend didn't mean it literally.

Sounds like your friend wants to start his/her own church to preach the gospel of Oblivion.
Can I fix him

Neutering your friend may not be the best solution.
or must I pray to the Tribunal and the Nine both and hope they have mercy on this poor pilgrim's soul?

Might work.
I am trying to convince him to play Morrowind.

Good idea, since your friend has yet to play it. Play it at least once, then leave it alone. Your friend does know that Oblivion is the sequel to Morrowind, yes?

Grow up, people don't have to like the same things you do. No reason to ask for help. "Oh no, [insert name here] doesn't like [insert item here] as much as I do! How can I correct [reinsert name here]'s mistakes and make him like [reinsert item here] as much as I do?"

Read the quote I gave DanielKay... I don't like talking about Morrowind and him barging in and saying "OMG The Elder Scrolls Morrowind is the greatest game in the history of the universe., PLAY OBLIVION!!!! 100,000,000,000X BETTER!!!"

I don't care he has his own opinions, I just want to be able to have a Morrowind conversation, not hearing a word about Oblivion (That game screwed up the lore big time, and as far as I am concerned, the Cyrodiil it took place in is completely Canon, but that is another conversation all together)

Take him to the Vet n say he wont leave your leg alone. OH you mean about the game. Start playing Morrowind and invite him over. dont tell him your playing n just let him observe you. then when he wants to play himself tell him no n to get his own. of course its his opinion n opinions are like a**holes everyone has one and they stink. n remember opinions r not facts.
