Play the game and enjoy?
Eventually you'll find Ebony, Glass of Daedric items to sell, depending on your level. Once you gain those, you're pretty much walking a road paved with gold. :3

Reach level 25.

Find bandits, strip them of all armor.

Go to Agnete the Pickled in Skingrad or Rohssan in Imperial City.

???

Profit.

Start using Alchemy, and farm the graqe and tomato fields in Skingrad and make potions of Restore Fatigue (you should be able to make ~60 at a time). Sell your potions to Sinderion in The West Weald Inn (He has low Mercantile skill).

Also, since your Alchemy skill will go up, you'll get more money for your potions.

cheating :)
nah. just kidding

1. alchemy: make potions > sell 4 gold > buy/find better stuff > make better potion > sell 4 more gold > buy/find even better stuff >.... and so on

2.dungeon delving: most common and simple reason, but alyead ruins are the best to find loot

3. level based stuff/rewards : enchanted stuff/rewards are better at high level, that also means that they sell 4 more gold

Buy alchemy ingredients at all the inns and shops. Anything under 4 coins will net you a tidy profit.
Run through dungeons and pick up enchanted items. They sell for tonnes

once you reach level 21 you start getting the best items available, they are expensive and there will be a lot of them, after that money is no longer a problem

I've never quite grasped the need for money in this game. A low-level character doesn't need high-level equipment, because the enemies one faces are also low-level. The only "need" for large money that I've ever encountered is the cost of buying houses, and for most role-play purposes, the IC shack (quite cheap) is a perfectly good "starter home."

Part of the nature of an RPG is the gradual improvement of the player character's situation. Shortcuts of that process (whether by mod or by powergaming) usually lead to dissatisfaction. This isn't intended as a criticism; obviously there are different playing styles, and it's a single-player game, after all. But the fact is that some of the great appeals of this particular game are the open nature of it, the great possibilities that exist, and the satisfaction that occurs as one earns rewards.

Anyway, King Coin said it all: "Just dungeon diving makes you a ton of gold." (And it's fun. :) )

glargg, I agree, but I think the problem in this case is that Rainbow Dash has downloaded some mods that add weapons to merchants which are significantly more expensive than anything in the vanilla game. He has unbalanced the economy in his game.

Some modders drastically over-price their items when they add them to merchants because, as several people have mentioned, players tend to get wealthy when playing the vanilla game. This is usually not a problem when one is also using an overhaul like Oscuro or Francesco, which floods leveled lists with modded loot, providing a source of income proportional to merchant prices. But a problem arises when one adds high-priced items only to merchants. If one wants to purchase a modded weapon from a vendor priced at, say, 50,000 septims from cash derived from selling vanilla loot one is going to be frustrated. Depending on the level of his character and the price of the item he wants to buy it may be a very, very long time until he's able to afford it.

Rainbow Dash, you can either be patient and, as others have said, keep dungeon-diving and selling your loot. Or, you can re-price your weapon to be more in line with the vanilla economy. If you want instructions on how to change the price of your weapon I will be happy to help.
