How do I get my character 'unstuck'?

Post » Wed May 26, 2010 11:08 am

Hi,

I was just doing one of the beginning quests for that guy Barton that lives in a trailer where I have to go up the hill past the old broken radio tower. Well somehow I've managed to get my character stuck in a rock, and I can't get out of it. My character is n perpetual motion, when I try to fast travel away, pipboy tells me that I can't fast travel while moving and or falling. But my character won't stop moving.

How do I go about getting my character unstuck?

Thanks,

If you play on PC you can use the console: Press the key left of number 1 key, and type tcl.

This allows you to move trough objects, after you get above ground do that again to turn it off. (However using the console disables achievements until you restart the game).

If you play on a console your only hope is to try to jump and move and try to get unstuck that way. If that doesnt work your only choice is to load an earlier save.

And as a warning, this and other unfortunate things happen can happen quite often in the game, so have multiple saves at all times.

Thank you, I am on the PC so I'll try to use the console command.

Edit: Worked perfectly, I'm now unstuck and continuing on. Again, thank you.

OP got unstuck already, but here's a tip for X-Box users--

Loading a save moves your character forward a small distance. This can be used to climb obstacles or free yourself.
Just push in the direction you want to go and save the game. Now, load that save while pushing forward and jumping. It's not 100%, but it works most of the time.

I hope the new engine will not have this problem.

Admittedly I don't know for sure, but given the 360 at least (and I certainly assume the PS3, although I've never used one) has a virtual keyboard, I'd expect it would be easy to implement a Console for Consoles-- fingers crossed, perhaps :)
