Some good places for easy looting are the boomers base both hangars contain armor and rocket launcers that u can steal and sell or kill everyone either way you can usually make around 10,000 caps of the whole stock there not counting the ammo and not having to kill anybody one more good spot is ceaser's fort and the encampment before the fort you can make around 4-5,000 so go get some caps and go ahead and get some guns at gun runners or energy weapons at the silver rush in freeside.

Even prior to Dead Money's dispensor I found it easy to gain money by farming Black Mountain for stuff.

With high enough luck(6+ and naughty nightwear) black jack is easy money. Not really a farm but I never really hurt for money after getting the initial 30+ thousand from gambling. You can also play roulette and bet all on a single number when you're close to the limit. Lose a few times, you go back and win more black jack - rinse repeat until you get lucky and make like 7k extra from roulette.

Having a decent barter and repair skill and especially jury rigging(repair expensive items with cheap ones) will let you pretty much take all available trader's caps. Just picking up and repairing the many 10mm pistols and such off convicts, viper gangsters, fiends, etc.will make you quite a lot of caps at the beginning too. Pack rat is also great for lugging tons of low weight loot around.
