How To Get a Hold of Daggerfall

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:06 pm

Since Bethesda is no longer cranking them out and they've since become a "collector's item" ( ) copies of the game are now: hard to find AND pricey. I can only find copies for sale at ridiculous prices in the $50 dollar area. Come on, it was made in 1996, I was expecting people to be selling them by the bucket load for next to nothing. You are a game-savy community, right? I need to know if you're aware of how can I can acquire the game, either by download or disc, without going into debt. Is it possible?

Ebay is pretty much your only option.

Ebay is your only reliable hope. You can try yard sales and that sort of thing, but unless you are EXTREMELY lucky chances of that are slim to none. It is not legal to download the game, so even if you see someone offering it, it's not legal.

Then why does Daggerfall cost so much?

Ho ho ho.

It's buggier than a Mafioso's mansion, you wouldn't pay that much for a brand new bug-ridden PC or console game.

Because despite the bugs it has more content and things to do than most game that comes out today.
New bug-ridden games are something I would have to check first. If it can measure up to Daggerfall, or something along the lines of that then I might consider getting it.

I auctioned for mine on Ebay for a while. It took me a week to find but eventually I bought it. If you are really determined to get Daggerfall then be prepared to spend some time and money to get it

Let us pray that Bethesda will look into their hearts and put it on their site for free once the next TES comes around

Though be advised that Daggerfall is IMMENSELY buggy. I personally cant go 10 minutes without finding a bug in the game.

EDIT: Also a lot of very old but very epic games are hard to find and very expensive. Look at Final Fantasy VII. It was an okay game that was completely epic and now is being sold in the 100 dollar area on the PS1

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, anyone? Not *quite* as glitched-up as Daggerfall, but still definitely bug-ridden.

Yea, $50 for an old (used) game kinda hurts BUT, the original list price for Daggerfall was $79.95
go figure....

I got mine as a Christmas gift, and it was the best one I got that year. I'll sell it for about a hundred-thousand USD if you want it.

Even back in the day playing an unpatched original version I only encountered a bug every two hours or so, and being a reasonable player I knew when to save the game at appropriate times so a crash to desktop wasn't much of a problem with the load times of next to nothing.

Now with a patched version through dosbox, I don't run into any bugs that I don't initiate.

I have 4 copies of Final Fantasy VII, 4 disks I believe in each pack. Somewhere in the closet, lol. But I'm not selling them :ninja:

I just found two copies while typing this. I bought 4 copies back then because I knew that these games were a hit and I couldget a lotta money for them. Good choice :D

Wow, 100+ for just the Daggerfall CD? I purchased mine approximately two years ago for around 50-60$ dollars with the box and all original contents. The box has some ugly store tape on part of the back of it and it is damaged (not terribly, but noticably) but the manual and all the contents inside are mint condition.

Arena cost me more (bought it at the same time) for 80$ but it was in the shrinkwrap still. Unfortunately I was not lucky and got one of the versions without a printed manual (on CD only). As you can imagine I was pretty PO'd...

I also bought Redguard (like new with box+ mint contents) and Battlespire (CD and Manual only)...

I wish I purchased the Collector's Edition of Morrowind because it's impossible to find now... and I'm having a hard enough time finding the original retail version of Morrowind. I got my 'Not for resale' copy in a software bundle that came with an MSI Geforce 5900 I bought several years back and I decided to give it a whirl. I enjoyed it so much that I went back and got Arena and Daggerfall... thoroughly enjoy them both but I have yet to beat Daggerfall. I think the only downside to playing Daggerfall is that it makes the latter Elder Scrolls games (Oblivion specifically, not so much Morrowind) feel like they're lacking.

What's even more ridiculous is in the other items near the bottom. Vampire for 90$? I can get that on another site for easily half that from an official source.

That's because a "new bug-ridden" PC game wouldn't be even half as good as Daggerfall is. Oh, and I found Daggerfall was usually less buggier than what most people make it out to be: at least it's completely playable (if you use dosbox), unlike, say, Descent to Undermountain (god shall forgive the developers for that abomination)
