How to get immersed in Skyrim

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:24 am

Want to get immersed in Skyrim but dont know how? here are the things which I consider essential in connecting to my character.

.Only carry what you would realistically be able to carry. (no having 10 swords in invent, or 1000 arrows) this is by far the most important thing to implement, your game will change totally when you do.

.Only save in towns.

.Turn off the HUD/crosshair completely, you need neither.

.When not on a quest (and thus not homing in on a quest marker) Dont use the map, if you get lost you get lost. Use roadsigns to your advantage.

Try the following if RP'ing still doesn't make sense to you. Start a new character, but dont do any quests. Thats right, dont do any quests Beth have programmed in. Make a storyline and purpose for your new character based entirely on what the world has to offer.. be it jobs, crafting, hunting, scout, ranger etc... live in the world... but dont be everyones errand boy.

You really want to get immersed?

Stay as far away from Forums as much as you possibly can, and play the game the way YOU want. At least until it breaks on you.

Don't use quest markers

And why can't our character have his own map? Or better yet...try to use the physical map!

No HUD sounds good to try, but that means what... no subtitles? no compass? no magicka, health, stamina bars?

I could do without those except the last bars really.

I don't know how to say no. The NPCs all treat me like a doormat :(

I play it like this. Hud enabled, just no sneak indicator. If I really want to I can disable it all, but see no reason just yet.

Basically carry two or three swords and lots food and water. Or go hunting. Probably with 30 arrows. Five sets of cloths. A few cure and healing items.

Doesn't take much to think but playing something that's not a feature is pretty boring.

As mentioned, you need no part of the HUD. You sort of get a feel for how much damage you take, same with stamina. Knowing how much of each you have left eventually becomes intuitive. Plus the red blur helps when you're low on health. No compass is good cos it helps you get lost, you learn to rely on the land to get your bearings. I cant imagine playing with a HUD now, I turned it on to see if the spider in the DB sanctuary had a name and it just looks so bad, despite them saying it wouldnt be as intrusive as Oblivion, it totally is imo. Archery is also a LOT better without a crosshair.
