How to get my Macbook Pro to run Skyrim

Post » Mon Sep 26, 2011 2:38 pm

I've been reading around about running Skyrim on a Mac computer. I just got a Macbook Pro for my birthday, and immediately wondered if it would run Skyrim. From what I've been reading, the Mac OS is not compatible with PC games, but I can install Windows via a program called bootcamp. However, I never came across conclusive evidence, so I still would greatly appreciate an answer. Thanks!

If you just got a new MacBook pro, then it will run Skyrim through bootcamp. Tells your specs ((apple:about this Mac: (processor an memory):more info. then you'll be in system profiler which will tell you all your specs like video card, chip set, resolution.

It's simple.

Step 1. Sell your macbook
Step 2. Buy something better

It depends on the specs you have. Most likely, the current 13 inch MacBook Pro will not be able to run Skyrim, but a current 15 or 17 inch model should be able to.
Just buy a copy of Windows 7, and run the Bootcamp Installer (located in your Utilities folder).

You would need bootcamp, and make sure that you GPU is capable of running the game.

Depends on the actual Macbook Pro. From what I've been reading, if you use bootcamp, you should be able to achieve medium settings. However, this should still be above Xbox :D

Thanks guys! I'm actually configuring it now, transferring my stuff from my old pc. It's the 13 inch mac, and all I know off the top of my head is that it has 4 gb of RAM. I'll definitely post the specs when I can (and sufficiently understand them), as I am definitely not a tech guy. But if it can't, it's totally fine. I have an Xbox, and I'm not a big gamer either, so it doesn't kill it for me.

If you have the 2011 MBP with AMD 6750m graphics card, you should be just fine running Skyrim or most other 2010-2011 games at 1440x900, 1600x900 or 1920x1080. I don't think the 6750m would be powerful enough to run games at 2560x1600, however, if you use an external monitor.

EDIT: I see it is the 13-inch MPB, which uses the Intel HD3000 graphics. Native resolution is only 1280x800, but I'm still not sure whether you would be able to run Skyrim with the HD 3000 GPU.
