How to get past "Come Fly With Me" Quest

Post » Sat Jun 19, 2010 12:26 pm

As the title and sub title ask, i've now reached the point in the game where I just picked up the quest but i've heard its the source of many save file corruptions so I'm wondering how I get past it without risking corruption? Thanks!

Not trying to be an [censored], but the easiest solution is to just skip it until the patch. other wise all bets are off..

Wait about 3 days for the patch to come out and the risk won't be there. No one really knows the answer, as some people didn't have a single problem with this quest while others believe it to be the source of their problems. You can also skip the quest entirely (I don't know how to enter a spoiler tag so I'll just say there's a way around it to get the information you need and the Fallout Wiki may point you in the right direction), but if you're patient and just go do some exploring (you may not be at high enough of a level to do a lot but I don't know), and wait until apparently some time before or on Wednesday, the patch that fixes the DLC corruption issue will be out and you won't have to risk anything.

I've done this quest twice and never had a major problem with it. I noticed a minor bug the first playthough but nothing to complain about. The only thing I can think of is I never picked up the space suite. Basically I never found it the first time and the second time I avoided it because I have read in various places that the space suite is the cause.

Your best option is to wait for the patch before starting the quest.
If you don't want to wait the save then game before starting the quest and keep that save. That way if the quest does glitch you will have that old save to go back to. Although if it does glitch you should restart the console and clear the cache before reloading old save just to be safe.

The issue is the space suit. If you're nervous, just don't loot the space suit or helmet.

Yeah this is what I mean with it not happening to everyone. Maybe it's what you do with the spacesuit afterward that can be the issue, but I looted that Spacesuit, and it's sitting in a cupboard in Novak. I also know someone who took the Spacesuit and was wearing it as armor for quite some time, no issues. Other people have pointed to the fuel as the source, but I took it too... I think maybe it has something to do with
Spoiler
the non ghoul that thinks he's a ghoul, I never told him to do anything (I didn't tell him to go to Novak, I didn't tell him that the other ghouls weren't going to take him, or that he was going to die or whatever the options were for him). He might be the key to it all too, but who knows.

I love these threads where people are so sure about exactly what causes the DLC glitch. You are all wrong, this glitch is caused by wearing mismatched socks because when it happened to me I had a black sock on my left foot and a white sock on my right foot. I've isolated it to the black sock so you should be ok if you have two white socks on. Unless your dog is barking to go outside because on my 5th playthrough I was wearing the white socks but the DLC glitch hit me as soon as Buster started barking.

I had no problems with this quest, and I took the space suit and helmet, and have used them occasionally elsewhere. Also, I did interact with the {spoiler}, again with no problems.
I don't know what's causing these problems, but it seems strange that different issues affect different players. I don't suppose it could be something to do with different versions of the 360 (unless the same problems apply to PS3 and PC)?

yeah, but wearing white socks causes the charisma stat to drop :(

I have no idea.. I did the quest on the way to vegas (hadn't been to vegas at all yet.).. I had the eyebot and boone. I left them outside. I snuck through the first level sniping ghouls and explored the entire area before going downstairs. At the end I took the space suit and walked out.. I never wore the suit except back at the hotel to look at it though.
I never had a problem with the quest at all. I had heard about the bug though and probably saved, in lots of different slots, easily over 20 times. Every single door... after every kill and before every conversation. Soo.. maybe going slowly and saving at every step is the key.
But like most said.. wait for the patch.

You can bypass the need to perform the quest by reading the Computer in Manny Vargas' room. Then you can do the quest later when it's patched.

Not true. I did the quest without taking the suit and got the DLC corruption anyway.

I spent roughly 12 hours through multiple corrupted files to get through this quest to no avail. At one point I was saving every few minutes and rebooting / loading the file to ensure it was not corrupted. The closest I got was the next step being reporting that the basemant was clear of supermutants. When every I beat the quest, the file was corrupted. I got the acheivement though.
