How do I get a song out of my head?

Post » Fri Feb 25, 2011 8:48 am

I'm starting to get really pissed. For almost a week now, I've had the same song stuck in my head. Whenever I stop to think about something or try to sleep, the song will just start playing. It's starting to get really annoying, and I'm even having trouble sleeping just because I keep thinking about that song. :verymad:

I don't even like it that much. :P I've tried everything from singing other songs out loud to blasting different music as loud as I can to listening to that same song over and over again until I get totally bored with it (which usually works), but this time... Nothing is working. And it really bothers me. Anyone have any helpful hints?

Nope. No ideas. You're stuck for a while. Time heals all.
Sing harmony to it....

What is this mysterious song? You could always try finding another Ear Worm.

Try writing out the lyrics, or at least the bits that are circling through.

Mohombi - Bumpy Ride... In French. :banghead:

I'm going to try out all your songs. Starting with Daft Punk. Daft Punk is awesome. I want Daft Punk on constant replay in my head. It'd make me feel very epic.

EDIT // @schnell olfy, thanks, I'll try that out too. :)

Actually, rather than just trying to drown out whatever song it may be, play it over and over. Subconsciously you want to hear the actual song. It's worked for me in the past.

Concentrate REALLY hard on drowning it out with other mental noises. REALLY hard. Your concentration will drift from it in seconds, but keep focusing on it again. That helps sleeping for me anyway. For day to day stuff just try to distract yourself as much as possible.

Trying to take up as much of your brain with something different is the key. Eventually you'll forget to think about it, but you'll remember from time to time. As long as you keep working really hard on blocking it out then after a while it'll go.

I've been in the same position. As an above poster said, time heals all.

Done that already, for the past three or four days. :P Hasn't worked.

Daft Punk is on now. Very loudly. I hope the neighbors don't come and complain.

@greatcarbuncle, it's just whenever I think about concentrating on something totally different, I start thinking about the song. Ehhh... Well, I'll try. :D

Thanks for the tips, guys!

Already had that song on my iTunes for a while.

Oddly enough, I've found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-_Wuv8ZJXM to be quite effective in the past. It's a pretty boring beat after a while, so it won't stick in your head, but there's so much going on that it's kind of like white noise across your mind's ear - completely wipes out anything you were thinking of musically. :P

Usually when a song gets stuck in my head, I just listen to it all the way through and that gets it out of my system. Or try to play it on guitar if it has a catchy guitar part (like that song Animal by whatever that band is that it's by).

Or just listen to this:

Oh there are plenty songs that get stuck in my head more than that. Examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZLfasMPOU4

There's a couple others that I know, but I (thankfully) can't remember what they're called or exactly how they go at the moment.
