How to get the 360 controller working 100%

Fixed it:). Apparently I need to unplug my controller then re plug it after oblivion has loaded.

Anyone know how to make it so the left stick is pressure sensitive( like it was before ) so there is no need for CAPS?

my settings for walking with left thumbstick are (in Oblivion.ini):

it's kind of sensitive, is there an option to set a dead zone? also i want to strafe smooth, even if i run. so if i put the thumbstick slightly left or right it moves full speed strafing left/right with THIS setting of me... any1?

i'd upload an xpadder profile later if someone would like it.
did 2 sets with auto-switch between inventory (TAB) and main controls. quite nice. (i'm using xbox 1 controller!) but it's the same buttons, but the bumpers, they're black/white below XYBA.

my additions to default xbox controller setting:

- smoother mouse settings (fiddled around with look around, quite good sensitivity now)
- auto-switch to menu controls if B (TAB) pressed
- scrolling with left thumb stick
- quick switch of tabs (if someone knows how to quick switch the stats/inventory/magic/map tabs on below with keyboard commands, plz tell me :))
- dropping items with X (Shift+LCLICK)
- choose items with A
- escape by back button (if TAB switch got [censored] up you can escape, just press B button again and leave game menu, but leftclick then is button A :))

any suggestions what else to add? any secret keyboard commands? msg me


btw. got a new ATI card (fastest for AGP...) but it seems i can set AF to 0xAF or 16xAF in catalyst what makes NO difference :(

Alright I'm bringing this topic back from the grave. I need help! I've followed every step perfectly, but my controller performs like a pregnant cow... Change view is RB, jump is B, sneak is A! Any ideas?

Oh man, I figured out that I wasnt running Control MK while playing and thats what was messing me up! I still have some questions though.

1. Why is LB the toggle for walk, but also for journal?
2. Why is Back the toggle for cast, but also for quicksave?

(I'm using Cochese's setup)

It allows you to use wireless 360 periph's on PC. It may or may not make life easier for Oblivion, I couldn't say.

If some one happense to get this to try, I'd appreciate a post here saying how it worked.

The device work's, but not on Oblivion for some reason, after reading many post's on how to setup the Xbox Controller
to play Oblivion, i went and bought the wireless reciever and wirless Xbox Controller, set everything up using
a program called ControlMK, started up Oblivion and my player was spinning around in the middle of the town,
i was p.m.s.laughing . then i read another few threads and found out that the wireless Xbox controller aint no
good for Oblivion, So if there is any 1 out there that has got the wireless controller to work please let us no
where it is posted ........

i changed everything in ob i needed to and downloaded controlmk and selected 360 controller in the top 2 boxes and went to read more on this page and it closed and now i cant reopen controlmk

i installed ControlMK and Oblivionpro from rapidshare.
but i'm having problems with some of the buttons.
X=inventory and sheath weapon
L Bumper=inventory and jump
R Bumper=activate and change veiw
press down on left anolog=paused menu and block
press down on right anolog=sneak and attack

2 Problems:
1. Instead of pushing gently to walk and pushing all the way to run, it's reversed. I have to push gently to run and all the way to walk.
2. The interact button and sneak button are the same (A or Button 1 on the 360 controller.)

ive tried every configuration in this thread but i still have the problem that when i push forward , it runs , when i push left or right it runs but when i press diagonally forward it walks . is there any fix to this. there was a post claiming that it did , but it didnt for me

Everything is working pretty well for me, but i do have two problems. 1)I can't use the d-pad for hot keys ( I guess i don't know how to set it up) and 2) I can't wait. Everytime i try to select the amount of time i want to wait, the screen just goes away (the waiting select screen that is).

THANKS SOOOO MUCH!

Im new to the hole gamming laptop thing and bought a m9750 and grabbed a old 360 controller and when it failed i thought it would never work untill i saw your post!


But one problem i cant seem to fix.
When i use the bow I cant soom in with the left trigger or any other butten it just shoots my arrow off.... fixable? THANKS!

Thanks, demonofdeath.

I got my Logitech controller to work with control MK.
Since Oblivion was reading everything but the right stick I just configured the z axis and z rotation and left everything else blank.

Now it works like it should.

Version Two!

I noticed a lot of people have been asking about the 360 controller. Oblivion's support for it is pretty terrible. Using Control MK, this is how I've gotten it to work.


1) Go to My Documents\My Games\Oblivion. Go into the configuration file, called 'Oblivion'. Once in the file, find:



If it is at 0, change it to 1. If it is at 1, leave it as it is.

Then, find:



And replace it with:



Step one is done! Thanks to Cochese for that part!

Step Two!

2) Go into Oblivion. Go into the keyboard controls area. Restore all to default. Then, scroll down, and find grab. You'll see it's set to 'Z'. Change it to 'shift'.

Step two is done!

Step Three!

3) Go to http://www.redcl0ud.com/controlmk/index.html. Download the latest version of Control MK. Install this wherever you want. It's not a very big file.

Step three is done!

Step Four! *Too many people are getting confused with this, so skip it unless you know what to do*

4) Go to http://rapidshare.com/files/6675837/oblivion.pro.html (or http://www.box.net/public/q0rno0d1s6). Put the [very small] file in the same folder as Control MK.


Step four is done!

Step Five!

5) Go into Control MK. In the first two drop down boxes, select the 360 controller. In the next one [the third one], click on the arrow button to the right of it. Navigate to the Control MK folder, and select the file 'oblivion.pro'. Press save, but don't close it! NEW ADDITION: For people confused about the .Pro file, click the name of a button (X axis, Y Axis, Button 1, etc) and select a keyboard or mouse button for the drop-down box. The buttons go in this order:

A
D
W
S
Mouse left click
Mouse right click
Mouse move X neg
Mouse move X pos
Mouse move Y neg
Mouse move Y pos
Space
Tab
F
E
Shift
C
T
Escape
Control
R

The keyboard buttons have a VK_ prefix, like VK_R in the drop down menu.

Quite an important part: you should see a few boxes towards the bottom of the Control MK screen. One should say 'DeadZone'. Make the number 20 instead of 10. Remember to click apply, then save. Thanks to Jordash for that!


NOTE: I'm not sure, but you may have to click the arrow next to the third box, select export, and save it as something. This may not be necessary, but it's good to have a back up incase something goes wrong.

And you're done! Go into Oblivion, and use the controller perfectly!

Theres no jump, and when i close the inventory my char jumps? do you know why this is?

At Rapidshare, click on free, enter in the code, the save the file to the same folder in which you installed Control MK. Then leave it, don't click on the file at all.

Continue with step five now, it should work. :)

How To Set up a PS2 controller for Oblivion or other BS controller Supp games

For Logitech Dual anolog (ps2 look alikes) owners!

Follow the original instructs of this thread (pg.1) untill you get to the button input, then stop, cuz that is for Xbox controllers and won't work out for you.

Now, heres whats first, start oblivion, click "Play Game" when in the main menu, go to "Options", then "Controls", then "Controls" again.
Make sure "Keyboard" is selected, go down to "Block" and set it as "B" instead of L-Alt, cuz apparently ControlMK doesn't support that button.

Now understand this, and well. Your controller is labeled 1-10, L3(push down left anolog) and R3(Push the Right) are 11 and 12,

ControlMK lists them as 0-11 rather than 1-12, so for your convenience, heres a chart for programing it yourself (don't worry I'll tell you my setup so you can copy)

ControlMK button #'s 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8- 9- 10-11
Actual Button #'s 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12

Say you want to set "Block" to L1 (like on PS3), just check the number on your controller (5) and subtract 1 from it to know which slot to put "B" in on ControlMK (which is 4). Not so hard now is it!

My complete ControlMK Setup is as follows: (all will have VK before it)

X axis (-) = A
X axis (+)= D
Y axis (-) = W
Y axis (+)= S
Z axis (-) = Mouse Move X Negative (all of these Z's will be your mouse control, using the Right anolog stick instead)
Z axis (+)= Mouse Move X Positive
Z Rotation (-) = Mouse Move Y Neg
Z Rotation (+) = Mouse Move Y Pos
(Leave Your Hatswitches blank for now, you can set them to correspond with the Keys(on keyboard) that correspond with you Hotkey menu, or whatever else you want them for, they are each direction on the d pad starting with up and going clockwise)
Button 0 = F
Button 1 = Space
Button 2 = Tab
Button 3 = E
Button 4 = B
Button 5 = Shift
Button 6 = C
Button 7 = Mouse Left Click (this is attack, and also comand, like accept in menu, be carefull)
Button 8 = T
Button 9 = R
Button 10 = Control (Ctrl on keyboard)
Button 11 = (haven't set a command to this yet, but you can set it to whatever you like)

Now your Right anolog stick will act as mouse(you can set it's sensitivity in the menu), and if you want you can also set Button 11(CtrlMK) as attack because it will also be your confirm button, sort of like a mouse with only one click)

If there are other buttons you feel u need, just set them up to your D-pad(Hatswitches) You have N NE E SE S SW W NW (8 more buttons, YAAA!)

For reference, you may want to write this down at first to get the swing, but really just "Think Playstation".
Buttons :

Square = Prepare/Put away weapon
X = Confirm (funny how it doesn't confirm everything) (most confirms will be done with Attack button)
Circle = Journal (menu)
Triangle = Jump (Whee!)
L1 = Block
L2 = Cast Selected Spell
R1 = Grab (push and hold over selected item and slowly move heavier items)
R2 = Attack/confirm
Select = Wait (for passing time/instant regeneration of mana)
Start = Change Views
L3 = Sneak Mode (if the eye is dim, your hidden, if its bright yellow, your noticed/seen)(stay in the shadows)
R3 = Best set to also Attack/Confirm so you can just click it when you move the right stick anyways
(your central menu will still be Esc, you can set it to Start if you like)

NEW PROBLEM!

After I installed Shivering Isles my controller went ape [censored] on me, now even after I set all the values to 0 exept the bUse Joystick, when I press a button I get two effects, the action programed by ControlMK AND the action from the game's point of view via its controller setup.

I checked the values and they are still 0 and 0.0000... so WTF!

and to top it off i can't find a way to uninstall Shivering Isles!

I'm going to try and find my save file and copy it elsewhere and then Uninstall/Reinstall Oblivion.

If you have any info on this problem, PLZ Reply!

Never Mind!

Fixed it, simply

Go into your menu and go to controls/ controls, then Joystick or Gamepad, and Select each input that has a button asigned, and select it, when it asks for the button you would like to change it to, just press ESC on your keyboard, now it will be blank, do this for all that have an input.

WAALAA!

Now if you uninstalled and reinstalled, and now for some reason your game won't load, here is what to do:

Start Oblivion
In the first menu that pops up, go to DATA FILES,

Then make sure that the Oblivion.esm is checked, if that doesn't work, then try unselecting Shivering Isles.esm, I know that SI won't work now, but you'll need to figure that part out with GOOGLE!

I am trying to use an ELECOM controller (it's a Japanese brand). It pretty much looks like a Playstation controller and has 12 buttons.

Anyway, I have tried using ControlMK, Pinnacle, and Xpadder and have been able to move and fight no problem with all of these programs.

My problem is the menu.

How do you guys switch between the bottom for tabs? (Health/Mana/Stamina)(Equipment)(Magic)(Compass)

Do you use the left anolog to move the mouse and select them? Or is there a way to map them to the controller and switch between them like the PS3 controller using the shoulder buttons?

I just don't understand why they don't just make a patch so we can simply not rely on other programs to run a controller. I am sure the demand for controller use is high, sigh. Oh well just would have to get used to it. I only have it on the PC for the Mods my serious characters are on the 360. :obliviongate:

By the way. For those who keep having problems with the controller not working. Simply make sure the ControlMK program is running while you are playing Oblivion. Otherwise your character will look like it just got stricken by the diabetes spell. :nono:
