How Do I Get The Best Start In Dead Money?

Post » Tue Aug 23, 2011 2:40 pm

I've already played it through, and I know how horribly difficult, slow and depressing it is, but I want to get it played through by the time Lonesome Road comes out. So does anyone know any glitches to get items into it, like stimpaks, guns ect? And also if your a high level such as 40, does that mean all the ghost people ect become much stronger?

1. There are no known "smuggling" glitches
2. I have only ever gone in at 30, but in theory yes, they should get tougher.
3. Remember, if any limb is crippled, they die. So if you use VATS, then trying to aim for the arms or legs is a good option.

Good luck! :tops:

You should either invest in melee (which is also great for Old World Blues) or sneaking.

For the record, I thought it was MUCH easier the second time.

Go in at level 30 with a decent speech level, because there are a lot of speech checks. Assemble your team at the fountain. Follow Elijah's advice and use Dog/God to help you clear the areas where you're going to have to take the 3 companions, he can help save your ammo. Once he knocks the ghost people down, blow one of their limbs off so they die, they don't respawn until later. After you have cleared the 3 areas, then take the companions to where they need to go, taking Dog/God last, just in case you need his brute strength again.

ETA: Oh and save often, or more often than you do in the regular game. Remember there are speakers that will blow your head off, and if that happens it could really set you back if you don't have a recent save file.

I posted awhile ago that bringing multiple companions (suggesting 4 or more) saving and putting the items you wanted to take on one of them and enter the Abandoned BoS bunker. Game then sends 2 companions home, hopefully not the one with the stuff. Found it out by accident.
Makes things real easy, though. I liked Dead Money. Made things hard. You had to improvise. Adapt and overcome.

I found that going in with decent Melee, Repair and Sneak skills made a huge difference. Ghost People are going to drop lots of melee and thrown weapons. The Repair (especially with the Jury-Rig perk) lets you fix up the stuff that you find (ammo remains a fairly scarce commodity, though) and a thrown knife-spear works just as well as energy weapons or guns against speakers and most other things. They lack a bit on range, but nothing that can't be worked around with the high Sneak. For those that can't be worked around, you'll have ammo for those longer range weapons since you used the Melee/Thrown weapons instead. And don't forget that the 2nd/3rd time through is MUCH easier than the first.

Make sure you have Motor-Runner's helmet in your inventory before starting DM. Because it can't be dropped, that and the rebreather will still be in your inv when you start. Thus giving you some actual armor :hubbahubba:
