How to give clover another weapon

Post » Sat Apr 02, 2011 2:24 am

Okay so I just found out that you could change the apparel of one of your followers by giving them items from your inventory. (By extension, that you can basically extend your inventory by nearly a factor of two by using their storage also.)

AND... I just acquired clover for the first time. (This is my 2nd play-through; a very evil character this time wahhaaha) I noticed that she keeps complaining about her weapon, the sawed-off shotgun. :(

I don't particularly like it either for her. I want her to use a ranged weapon, but i'd prefer if she'd use the combat shotgun, with charon's effectiveness, ideally.

In fact, I've given her the combat shotgun, only to see that she still uses the doggone sawed-off still.

Is there a method to this madness? Does the weapon i give her have to be in pristine condition to replace the stupid sawed-off or what?

What's the deal? How can I get her to use a different weapon?

Thanks in advance.

The weapon you give her has to be better than the one she has and you have to give her ammo.

Damn. No wonder Jericho asked for 1000 caps up front. This chick is expensive! Cool, thank you for the info.

forget the shotgun, give her a chinese assault rifle, you can trade casdin at fort independance tech for .556 ammo. i never use assault rifles myself, so its easy for me to keep her super stocked up with ammo, just give her a chinese assault rifle and all the .556 ammo you can buy, find or trading tech from casdin, also take the scrounger perk and you'll find even more ammo. ranger, combat or talon armor is good to give her. i also give her a combat helment and later on in the game after the enclave show up, i give her an enclave officer hat, give her lots of grenades too. the backwater or lever action rifle is another good weapon for her to use and easy to get ammo for and those rifles don't waste a lot of ammo and are highly accurate and effective, to help her save on ammo, give her a shiskebob also, she's really good with it. thats all she'll need, i have been using her on most of my playthroughs and i always give her that setup i told you and she doesn't need anything else, i also give her the lucky shades. i hope that helps.

Everything westoftherockies said is great. The only thing I wanted to add is this. None of the followers can match Charon and his shotgun because it is unique and is like no other weapon in the game. That's why he's so great with it.

Agreed, Clover's very handy with a rifle. The Xuanlong would be a good choice for her, either if your character is not a Small Guns user or if they are, but their weapon of choice is different; in her hands it won't wear out. Her awesome melee skill would make the Shishkebab a good close-in weapon. I've had good results with her using that.

The hell with clover  she ran off and got lost at some point, multiple quick saves ago.

I waited at least 24 hours for her too. I found that she was dying fairly easily anyway, although that could have been mostly due to my level, not sure.

I wanted to be alone anyway, even though it's nice to have a follower. I think I'll pick up Charon again sooner than later.

Also, did you wiki to find out Charon's shotgun was unique? I agree that he is excellent with that thing, but it seems like just a regular shotgun to the untrained eye ;).

Main point is that the followers needs ammo for weapons you give them.

A great weapon to give Clover, or other followers, is the Terrible Shotgun. It does a huge amount of damage. It's main drawback is that it degrades quickly and needs to be repaired if your character uses it. However, weapons used by followers don't degrade so that weakness is eliminated if you give the Terrible Shotgun to Clover.

EDIT: and by the way, no matter what gun you give her she'll still complain about wanting a better one. Some people are just whiners

No, I just know about all things Charon (well, most things anyway). He's a special interest of mine. And I have the GECK.

Edit: Ya, Savlian I agree about Clover. She is a big whiner. You'd think she'd be quiet about the gun thing if you gave her the Xuanlong or Lincon's Repeater or something like that. But, no....

Clover tried to kill me, as I was looting PF on one character. Charon blasted her in two. No more hired hooers.

Clover - "Can I have a better gun?"

LW - "For Christ's sake lady! You have a Fatman. Shut your mouth before I push the button on your collar!"

 I shouldn't laugh, because I like Clover and would never hurt her, but ya, I have had those kinds of conversations with Jericho after he's been griping endlessly about my Evil karma skyrocketing all they way up to Neutral. :shakehead:

She finally showed up at Paradise falls after a few in-game weeks! I've given her the kneecapper and the shishkebab!
