How do I give my dead thrall weapons and armor?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 5:23 am

I try to talk to it like you would for a normal follower but it doesn't work.

I try giving it armor while it is dead, but it doesn't equips it.

How do I give it armor or new weapons to equip?

I suppose you could Use console to force equip stuff, but outside of that I'd imagine it's like trying to teach a zombie to make a sandwich.

I haven't found a way to give them anything directly, though I have noticed that sometimes they will pick items up off the ground and equip them.

The wiki says all this stuff about them being able to have armor and things.

Well before they are a thrall they are dead, and before that they are alive. That stuff they had when they were alive. You know that stuff, that is what they have assuming you don't take it off them.

You 'could' drop a really nice enchanted weapon on the ground, then use the disarm shout to make your enemy drop their weapon so they will pick up the nice one, then kill them, then thrall them. That is one way.

Anyone ever going to tell me why my thrall won't equip the things I give her?

Do I need to keep bumping my own thread to get answers?

You should actually read the very article that you, yourself, suggested since it gives you the answer to your question.

The wiki says all this stuff about them being able to have armor and things.

But since you are having a hard time, I will point out the very parts that you seem to have ignored.
  • Thralls will only equip the clothing they spawned with. It must be the specific item, it cannot be a duplicate (e.g. if a thrall spawned with an Iron Helmet, it will only wear that Iron Helmet and will not equip any other Iron Helmets found in the game.) An exception is reanimated Forsworn who will use any Forsworn armor dropped by other Forsworn.
  • Thrall equipment can be improved. To do so, loot the desired gear from the thrall's corpse. Modify the gear as you wish through enchanting and smithing. Return the gear to the thrall's corpse and reanimate it. The thrall will equip the gear upon leaving the current cell.

You might need to wait until a fight or zone change occurs to trigger the Thrall to equip items.

I will add that I have been using http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Benor as a Thrall, and I replaced his hammer with a double-enchanted http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Daedric_Battleaxe that he equips quite readily.

Try fast traveling after you reanimate them.

Pfff! Well that tells me how reliable THAT information is. If I enter or exit any cell my thrall turns to a pile of ash. No exceptions.

But who needs shrivelled dead/undead things when you can have two Dremora Lords!?

A thrall is an infinite summon...they never expire...they also never turn to ash and can be re-raised if killed.

You are properbly confusing them with a regular raised zombie.

Possible, it's been a while since I used it. The infinite summons Zombies would only work on weaker things for me. Always got "thisreallyusefulguy is too powerful to summon" Two infinite fire Thralls didn't last long against anything. The larger ones (Ice/Storm) got in the way and I haven't found permanent Dremora summonings yet. So I just use temporary Dremora Lords that do the trick nicely. (If I can get the right spot for the summon to work!)

Max distance (no red target) ZZZZuummm! Nothing! (Enemies alerted to your magic and closing!) Quick! Try a bit closer.. (I do have the long distance perk, right? -Yup. ok) ZZZZZuuummmm! (Nothing!) Damn! Try a bit closer.... Zzzzzummmm! Zzzzzzzummmmmm! Zzzzzzzzuuum-Shazam! It worked! -BAFFF (I'm dead. the bandits caught up to me and the Dremora suddenly appeared halfway down the corridor. Thanks Daedric buddies...

(Actually, I think that should be "Shhhazzzam, Shhhazzzam" on casting and "ZZZZuuuummm!" on completed conjuration but I think you get the idea!)
