How has the food in 4 been preserved for 200 years?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 5:13 am

Unless there were some insane advancements in Preservatives in 2077... No food can survive after 200 years. Even sealed food can perish, especially the Salisbury Steak or can of beans. Most canned food is canned in acid conditions. That prevents a single bacterium spore that may have wafted from the air from falling on the hot food and surviving in the food. The acid will cause the food to undergo a slow oxidation reduction reaction. This will cause the food to become inedible. How are people still eating Pre-War food? We've clearly seen in the Endurance video that people still survive off of "Packaged stand-bys".

the food preservation not only on Fallout 3 and NV and Fallout lore in general is a joke about Artificial preservatives, if u notice the only food that survive is can food or box food.

I'm amazed we haven't found any Big Macs in previous games. Those things last forever.

Fallout loves to poke fun at at things like that about the Back When Times and the 50's-centric mentalities it encompassed. Cartoonish patriotic propaganda, excessive consumerism and marketing, apple pie and Uncle Sam.

And people say Fallout is srs bsns.

Irradiation is a great way of preserving food. Any bacteria nearby will be killed before the food begins to decay. Combine irradiation with preservatives and advanced packaging and food can last 200 years.

Recently they dug out canned food from a steamer who sunk some 167 years ago. They opened it up and it was still healthily edible, even if it lost the taste.

You don't think 60 years from now we could have food that would last 200 years? Nucleared powered cars and personal robot butlers but this needs an explanation? Guess we're just starting topics to start topics haha

This thread brings up the question of if parody and social commentary in art is often lost on the viewer.

Sadly, yes, it is.

You know, if the world really does burn in nuclear hellfire... it's good to know America will still have a food surplus. :D

An odd topic but one that interests me cause I am odd.

See bout 15 years ago when i was going through a being Poor as sin spell (IT Happens).. Heh I bought a crap load of sort of out of date C-rats for cheap. These were I am pretty dang sure Vietnam era cans, they also were still quite tasty (well as these things go) and did not kill me... so I Sorta looked up just how long stuff of this nature is good, turns out the older ones were actually rated to last longer now modern MRE have bout a 5 year shelf life if your lucky.

Further just goofing around on the internet turns out Canned Corned beef as long as it is not banged up, might be good 20 years or more, And Honey pretty much never goes bad (it may crystallize, and leaving it in plastic is not so smart). So in 50 or so more years we might find something that really boosts shelf life.

What I really want to know is what big Brain came up with eating some of the odder foods we eat.... Blue cheese

"Hey this has mold, no no thats good eat it. " hehehe

This.

Dont you think with the advent of atomic cars, laser rifles and plasma pistols they could have possibly made improvements to food storage ?

Also dont forget it just works.

I dont know that one will have to look it up hehe.

I have had as most odd that Swedish fish preserved in lye, Balut (14 day old duck egg looks gross but its good) 100 year old eggs (there uhh preserved not really 100 year old and odd and taste of gunpowder well to me). I will try anything twice (except that maggot cheese thing no just NO)

Its the simple stuff like say Cashews raw they will kill you. Look joes dead maybe we should try cooking those, sorta the same thing with Rubarb hehe. boggles my mind.

Edit-Looked yours UP it indeed sounds just Insane, Lutfisk (seems close enough to me without the rotting fish part, and it was not good to me )

Points down hehe Summer (Instantly made me think of Zombieland's twinkle meter running out)
