Yeah I've always pronounced it like Velorien. Lay-loo is surely not right? : P

I think Velorian is closest to the most common pronunciation.

Morrowind was released during my first year of college Latin, and I had an annoying habit of pronouncing it hLay-loo (soft h, hard syllabic break with the L to the diphthong, with a misinterpret on the aa as an ae). Yeah, fascinating bit of personally history right there for ya! :hehe:

Hlah-Lew.

The H is almost silent. Almost.

That's how Falanu Hlaalu, the Alchemist in Skingrad in Oblivion pronounces it.
Almost silent, but definitely there.

You can check it yourself using the sound files in the CS (there are some extra greetings in Tribunal for members of the Great Houses and other factions). Most people pronounce it "laa-loo", but you can sometimes hear the 'h' sound at the beginning as well.

The 'h' is aupposed to be almost silent and short. I think it's supposed to sound almost like you're getting ready to spit.
I think you should also take time to drag the 'a' sound out for a little longer. Not too long though, not even a full second longer.

In Oblivion there's that weird necrophiliac from Morrowind who claims she is from house Hlaalu. I seem to remember her pronouncing it "Hla-Loo". Unfortunately no one put up a video of that on youtube.

Edit: Aquan.

In other words, there are many pronunciations. And this is realistic. There should be regional and class-based accents in Tamriel. Here in the United States we have more ways to pronounce words than you can shake a stick at. Some of us can't understand what the others are saying sometimes.

Actually, if you go to the Alchemist in Skingrad (Oblivion) Falanu Hlaalu will actually pronounce it for you. Hla-loo is correct. Confirmed. :)

H-law Oh-add is how I've always pronounced that, I went there often as I lived on the vampire boat just southwest of there. ^_^
