How important is Dueling to you?

Post » Tue Feb 25, 2014 9:42 am

So as we have seen ZOS has been listening to its community pretty well, referring to the NDA patch that has surfaced (assuming it is true) and the first person perspective. So it seems to me like if there is enough people who voice their desire to see dueling in the game we might see it earlier than later. So how important is dueling to you? would you like to see it in the game? I personally think that it would add a lot to the game and the lack of dueling may throw people off. Just to clarify by dueling i mean 1v1 dueling upon request, not an arena.

Dueling has always been a staple of MMO's. I was surprised that it has not been implemented yet. I would love to see it sooner than latter. I remember hanging out in front of Orgrimmar dueling for hours. In a strong PVP based game like ESO it is diffcult to understand why we do not have this already. Dueling is not just about seeing who is better it is also a crucial part of theory crafting for many.

dueling is a staple of pvp games and kiddies who wanna test their epeens out against each other but honestly a duel doesnt prove a players prowess or lack of in a real field of battle, its a focused fight in a focused area against a focused enemy you can see AND know is there, it proves nothing

I would very like it to be in the game.

Not important in any way, shape or form. Adding dueling would be a waste of precious developer time that is much better used on countless core systems.

same here. I would like to see added after they really finish the bugs first... And it doesn't have to prove anything to be a fun add on...

Dueling is very important for RP otherwise we have to resort to emote-fighting which always inevitably leads to meta-gaming and mary-sue-ing.

While I was never much of a dueler, I certainly did miss the ability to duel in several recent MMOs that have released without it.

Especially in a game with a PvP focus, where 3 sides are at war, it makes sense to be able to spar with your comrades as one would in reality.

Maybe they should call it sparring.

Also there should DEFINITELY be a "auto-deny all duel requests" option. That's just a no-brainer.

ALSO

Another thing I would like to see is group duels, to be able to test builds against multiple characters. So I would like to see duels between 4-man groups AND duels between guilds (one death and you're out like any duel) but the winner is last man standing in group or guild. Also fun if you wanna RP a bar brawl.

I agree. I can live with or without, but it does have value outside of ego stroking. I liked dueling my friends and guildies to test and tune builds in other games, and I can def see it's value in RP.

Well I think Dueling is almost necessary, I have never really dueled too much in an MMO but i know many people like to do it just to pass time while they wait for a friend, pvp group forming, ect.

Except for RP, I can totally live without dueling ... so it's pretty low on my list.

I enjoy it sometimes. As long as there is a way to block it then I am fine with it. But there has to be a way to block it otherwise you always get that fool that follows you around spamming duel requests.

Absolutely, that's gotta come part and parcel with a dueling system.

Could even default it to on.

I don't care about it, so just don't bother me with requests if Im not bothered with it.

And Im sure because of phasing that the town centers won't be clogged with annoyances, throwing handbags at each other instead of PVPing in Cyrodil. :)

You could even have an option to phase out people who are dueling, hehe.

Generally MMOs don't allow dueling in cities and towns, so the brawl can easily be taken outside where your precious immersion won't be affected.

I have zero interest in duelling. It might keep the Tweens happy, because they love all that [censored]-waving stuff, but you won't catch me wasting my time indulging them. It's better to spend my game time doing something that's actually useful.

Well if Honn doesn't want it then it needs to be mandatory you must dual twice daily... :D  :bunny:

2 and 4 man duals would be awesome mini wars... Excellent ideas...

dueling in its common form is not something i generally do in an MMO, though i do see its benefit for crafters (testing their wares) and guilds (training members)

given that this is ESO and, with that, comes a certain freedom to 'break the mould' i would prefer to see:

  • 1v1 duelling added
  • gladiator guild added that gives unarmed fighting skills
  • progression in gladiator guild dependent on winning duels
  • higher gladiator guild levels giving access to arena fights up to 4v4

This would add the mechanic for anyone to use but provide some context and objectives for those that duel for the sake of winning. It would also add arenas but, as a spectator, you would be likely to be watching decent fighters duke it out and not a newbie getting ganked over and over

Dueling is such a basic and dated feature not having it in game is disgraceful. You know what game doesn't have dueling, neverwinter... do we want to really be compared to neverwinter

Only important in that I really don't want it. Sick of that sort of crap going on in every public space and people who like it expecting classes to be rebalanced around it.

Perhaps one of the future additions to be added to the game might be the Arena, as seen in Oblivion. Beat each other to death, with bare fists for fame and money!
