How important is it to you that...

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 8:46 am

Very important to me, a good recent example would be Dragon Age 2. That game was pretty much unplayable until patch 1.02 came out.(Which took them forever to make)

I played through all of Dragon Age 2 on v1.00 and I never encountered a single bug.

I feel like that's how it works for me with just about everything. A lot of people mention how they have terrible game-breaking experiences with bugs, and then I play and I have little-to-none, and certainly none that are game-breaking. I don't get it. Either I'm just really lucky somehow, or you guys are doing something wrong or are intentionally trying to break things.

Morrowind on my comp never gave me any problems.

I played both Oblivion and Fallout 3 on PS3. Very rarely did I encounter any problems in Oblivion, but Fallout 3 would crash and I'd have to reload my latest save, which got annoying going on missions. I'd say it crashed about 5-8 times throughout the entire main quest. Even that wasn't totally game-breaking for me. So I say that I have faith that Bethesda will make a game free of bugs that will lower my overall opinion of the game.

I'd say it's pretty important to not be as buggy. They have a good base, and a lot of time to polish. But really what I'm saying is not quite as many CTD's, or glitches. I'd still expect plenty to be there. Once in the hands of 1000's of gamers, they're much easier to find.

In such cases more likely 1000's of gamers will contribute their bugs to one thread and community will create an unofficial patch, or even move furtherer and make fixes for game engine like Morrowind Code Patch project.
Then devs will fix them, unfixed bugs are traditional feature of TES games as start in prison or lack of climbable ladders :teehee:

extremely important...

i dont mind the small stuff, because no one can avoid/fix every tiny bug in a game, but the big stuff, like constant crashing/freezing if a file gets to a certain size, like in fallout 3... or the overall instability of the game... again, like the fallout games...

i just wanna be able to play skyrim as much as i played morrowind and oblivion without worrying about the game crashing/freezing on me every step of the way.

oblivion became sort of unstable, like it eventually started devouring my items... literally, if anything was dropped on the ground, they'd fall right through it!

after quite a bit of time, after i had gotten all of the DLC, the shivering isles started to fall apart, that boneyard in the fringe kinda... vanished.

so, i really hope skyrim is more stable, and doesnt suffer from anything more than minor glitches, and only freezes if you purposely stress the game, like in oblivion, if ya exploited that duping glitch to a very large amount of items spawning on screen, etc...

I don't care how buggy it is. Give it to me on 11.11 and we're good.

I don't think I'd recognize it as a Beth game without random CTDs! It's tradition!

Sad but true...hehehehe. I'd panic if the game wasn't pretty buggy myself...and lie awake at night going "So who really developed it?" ;)

Never had any Fallout 3/DLC or Oblivion/SI/KotN bugs. Morrowind/Tribunal/Bloodmon owned my xbox on numerous occasions and completely froze the thing up. But I think that was more of a case of the xbox's lack of power. Now, Obsidian..... ouch.

I've never really encountered any bugs in any Bethesda title that were that big of a deal, or that were not my own fault. Plus, playing on the PC means I get the command console, which can fix 90% or more of any problematic bugs, and that last 10-or-so percent can be fixed with mods.

Obviously if it's filled with game-breaking bugs, that's a big deal, but I haven't encountered any before.

I have a feeling you have never played Daggerfall :)
PC users has the console commands however they also have the issue that the game might refuse to start because of unknown reasons.
I installed Windows 7, Oblivion and Fallout 3 refused to start, easiest solution was to replace motherboard, cpu, memory and graphic card :)

I don't expect a perfect game and there is a level of tolerance for problems that I find acceptable but it's different for everyone. I know most problems will be patched and hopefully quickly because Fallout New Vegas is taking forever. It's six months later and not fixed yet...more stable but not fixed.

My biggest issue outside of a game that keeps freezing and may be unplayable for that reason is - logic flaws. Those are the worst. In FNV, I spoke with someone before I had the quest and evidently used up the speech option that would be needed later for the quest. In these games, we're supposed to speak with everyone because it might lead somewhere. It was a game-ending logic mistake for my first game because the only solution was to become an assassin and that's something I wasn't willing to do. I believe that was fixed in the first patch of FNV but not for that game I had invested so many hours in. That game was kaput.

So yea, it's pretty important.

I prefer to have some of those glitches. Duplication, permanent-enchanting, and other things like that.

Windows 7 doesn't come with DX9. Did you download and install it?

The CTDs in Oblivion and Morrowind were pretty much directly caused by the hilariously buggy Gamebryo engine.

Odd question really. In a perfect world I want my games perfect. But I know there is a LOT of stuff going on in these sandbox games. I KNOW there will be problems. As long as they are not game breaking I'm ok with that as I know the bugs will get fixed with patches (official and unofficial). Not a real concern of mine.

I have played Daggerfall. Sure, I went through the void a couple of times, but it was usually because I tried to climb in ridiculous locations or do something crazy like that. I also screwed myself over by messing with the z.cfg file. So those "bugs" were partially my fault.

I don't know why you'd have problems. I've run Oblivion, FO3, FONV, and Morrowind on Windows Vista AND Windows 7 and never had any problems.

This is why I won't buy the game at release. I never do. I'll wait until they get out the first patch or two and get it pretty stable, then buy it. That's just what I do with all software. Serious bugs are obviously a big deal, but Beth has mostly avoided those. Little bugs are pretty much unavoidable, but once they get it patched sufficiently, it should be fine.

I hope.

This
Bethesda are ok at sorting the game-breaking bugs out (as they should be)
By the time I buy a game its usually patched and community bug fixes are being worked on for what isn't already fixed

edit: so from my pov not too important
a lousy bug free game is still a lousy game and a good buggy game is worth looking for solutions

Every game has a bug here and there, but Bethesda seems to think it is normal to sell games that play like a road with 90 degree angle 3 foot drops every 1/4 of a mile. :brokencomputer:

Even with New Vegas I never really had issues, less so with their other titles.

All I can say is that it's a brand new inhouse game engine that they should know like the back of their hands, so I doubt there will be many bugs at all. It should be pretty shiny and clean.

I voted "pretty important." On the other hand, Oblivion crashes almost every time I change clothes--and I keep playing. :)

It is important in all games IMO, since a buggy game is a badly polished game. Bethesda haven't had many game crippling bugs, and they try to patch as many as possible so I don't think it will be much of a problem.
So I think it is important, but we have to expect a few bugs that probably will be patched sooner or later.
