How to Increase FPS?

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 7:50 pm

So I have a PC with pretty good RAM (4.00 GB) and pretty good processing (2.70 GHz), but the graphics card of a potato. I can play Skyrim with very little lag at all, but only on a low, windowed resolution. If I play it on high resolutions or full screen, it lags often.

I was wondering if there was a way I could improve my FPS. I know there are mods out there (such as Skyboost), but I hear those are outdated, as the code for Skyrim has been changed and optimized. Are there any other options?

Thanks.

Easiest and best way is to just buy a nice video card. The one in my sig runs a heavily modded Skyrim on Ultra settings with no issues at all.

Chances are extremely poor that our OP here will have that option. The ordinary public has stopped buying desktops, probably because the only thing they ever see in a Movie or TV show is a laptop. And we know those are deadend, disposable devices too expensive to use for gaming because they lack the add-on capability to upgrade graphics.

Once upon a time, there was a website for low-end PC owners wanting to play Oblivion on low quality hardware, for whom the website offered a review and summary of available Mods that would help. Now, that sort of thing doesn't seem to exist.

Decent video card for your PC would help. $200 range will get you a good card. My other recommendation is Xbox 360 is going down to $99 when the Xbox 720 comes out.

the nexus has guides to improve fps, also guides to fiddle with Shadow settings for low end PCs. there are also a few mods that offer low res/size optimized textures.

there is no secret solution to increase Skyrim performance, but using the nexus search function you will find more options to change your grafics, and thereby find what suites you best.

if you want higher screen resolution and farther few, you could change (or even disable) shadows or texture resolution. non of this is offered (to these extremes) from the game options menu.

search term that will be of help:

fps, shadow, optimi, performance, boost, tweak.

I can't really tell what kind of system you have from the description, but if you can become adjusted to the visual style of a mod I made it should increase performance for everyone.
