How-To Inquiry: Spell Visuals

I'm sure you're all familiar with the "shock" (lighting) projectile effect. I was wondering if anyone knows how to create a new spell effect of this sort. For example, firing a lazer beam in a straight line using a texture similar to this:

I know that the Midas' Magic mod was able to pull this off to an extent, but I can't seem to figure it out. Thank you all in advance! I'm trying to get back into mod-making so I'll be able to jump right into Skyrim modding when the time comes.

This should be on the CS forum.

Shock bolts are hard-coded and configured via a few GMSTs (no mesh involved). Any changes apply to ALL shock bolts, you can't tailor them for individual spells. Closest you could come would be detecting the player's currently readied spell and editing the GMSTs accordingly, but that would cause enemy shock spells to look like whatever spell the player's using.

I'm sorry, I didn't see the CS forum until just now! I'll post these questions there from now on. Should I ask a moderator to move this thread, or should I re-post?
