How to install multiple morrowinds? Wizard's Island?

Post » Tue Dec 10, 2013 2:28 am

I seen some post way back from Pluto the moderator and he said you could have multiple morrowinds and I love to know how I can fully do this, like if someone can put this in a step by step process. I recently came across wanting to try out that wizards island and I have never got the chance to play it. I had a few buddies of mine tell me it is really interest as we speak to each other across the web daily. I have talked to one of them and he said "Wizard's island is one of the best mods he's ever played". Now hardly to believe I don't compare mods as better or not, but am a really big fan of T.R. I have never really got to play T.R. till I joined this forum. I can't do it with my normal morrowind I have already because it won't work with T.R. and I already know that, my one friend tried to install it that way, but as soon as he touched the land his game crashed. My question to everyone who install multiples of morrowind, what is a good way to do it, I thought you could just reinstall the game again, but I wouldn't even understand how that would even work.(Unless I sent it to another file)? I would just love to try the mod with another morrowind installed by it's self for I could see what wizards island is, I have always wanted to play that mod. I was very impressed with Emma's Lokken mod. All I ask is if someone can explain how to install morrowind once again and also how to get wizard island to fully work. I do not know if wizards island is known for using other game assets which I do hardly believe it didn't.

Thanks,

Ok, this is a complicated method and it's full of pittfalls and places where it can blow up in your face: Ready, pay close attention now:

1. Copy the Root Install Directory of the current Install Folder

2. Paste the folder to the location where you want the copy of the game.

3. Make a shortcut to the launcher in the new location.

Done.

You just have to keep straight which launcher goes with which install, and of course keep your mods straight between the installs, but this is how I used to do this back in the day. Not sure if a Steam based copy of the game offers more challenges to this. Also, any mod tools that use the Registry to determine the location of the install won't find the new location unless you point them there.

So I install everything from the morrowind file and what about the data file with all the mods inside? I have never tried this and don't want to ruin it in any way. Also which file is the best to put this in? How do I separate the mods or that can't happen, because I just want it to be fully normal and I want to make sure I do this right, I have had a few problems with even my cs before, just by opening the cs it crashes.

You have two separate installs, and you can have two separate sets of data files. Just point your mod installers to the right place. I have had up to 6 different Morrowind installs on my rig, each with a different mod mix entirely. Of course, if you make a copy of an already modded game, then your going to get those mods copied. So, it is best to copy a base install before you mod it, or you can rip out the data files of the mods you don't want on the copied install.

As for using the Editor on each of these, I have never tried that. I used one install for loading and editing mods, then I would put that mod on the install that I wanted to play it on.

So I have to have a normal install, which this will require to back up my files for MGSO and the other mods I have to get a normal base install of morrowind? I have never did this but I will use your advice as you suggested and I guess the only way i'm able to do this is to back up my files only way it will work.
