How to re-install Skyrim with my saves because Steam...

Post » Sat Nov 22, 2014 2:26 pm

verification content fixed loading of the game via Steam but erased latest saves.

I have latest saves on C drive but Steam Skyrim won't load them, it loads older games.

Can I delete game on PC and Steam, re-install Skyrim and load recent saves?

Will Steam re-save them and play from last save ( the battle with vampire with Auriel's bow)?

Are you using Steam cloud ??? Turn that off.

I would suggest you to play offline. !!!

-------------------

With those above, if your put your saves on this directory (Skyrim's default save location) C: \ Documents and Settings \ [Your User Name] \ My Documents \ My Games \ Skyrim \ Saves

...your recent saves will work just fine. !!!!

just tried offline and it shows Volkihar Keep with right pic in load menu but loads game data a few months old. It also reads "Content might not contain certain objects...Load Anyway" and it loads old save data.

Do you had any mods installed on your newer saves, and then uninstalled for some reason ???

Move your old savadata to another folder, and leave only your never saves in there.

Also delete your SkyrimPrefs.ini & Skyrim.ini file. (C:\Users\\Documents\My Games\Skyrim)

Then verify your game cache files: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

If you get that message again "Content might not contain certain objects...Load Anyway", just confirm with YES.

What happens ???

OK, I'll keep only saves on 12/11/2014, delete SkyrimPrefs.ini & Skyrim.ini files & verify...

"Verify integrity of game cache"...Right?

Your saves are located here: C:\Users\\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves

A game cache verify shouldn't wipe those out at all. Only game files are verified.

The cloud is the only other place saves are stored I think.

Can you see your latest saves? Are you using any mods at all with your game? You should see .ess files. Check the date on the files. They should coincide with when you last saved.

IN game bring up the load menu instead of clicking continue. See if you are getting screenshots that also coincide with those saves.

It's possible the latest saves didnt get written to the folder. Sounds like you had some issues for a bit that the game verify solved.

Yep, set to offline and cloud disconnected and only 12 Nov 2014 saves in folder.

I select Volikhar Keep/Cathedral to battle with Auriel's bow and it puts me way back to "Discerning the Mundane" @ Sleeping Giant Inn !!!!

Can't I just delete all Steam Skyrim files, uninstall Skyrim from PC, keep latest saves I want, CClean, restart, reinstall Skrim and put those saves in Save folder?

Yes, you can uninstall Skyrim that way:

First do a standard uninstall. (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features-> Uninstall The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)

Next, delete your skyrim folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\

Then delete your Skyrim directory under Documents/ My Games after backing up your save files if you wish.

Then under C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\ - Delete the Skyrim folder that is in it.
(You should enable to see the hidden files under windows to delete that folder.) HOW: (View - Options - Folder Options - View - Advanced Settings: Show hidden files, folders and drives)

Use Ccleaner after all this (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner), and install your game again, from scratch. !!!!

You don't need to uninstall Steam.

Your saves are messed up. Whether it's from a mod or some background program i dont know. I highly doubt reinstalling SKyrim is going to do anything.

The save files are what they are. SKyrim reads them and loads what is in them. Are your saves working correctly now? YOu can save and load your character properly?

BTW are you making NEW manual saves or are you just quicksaving and autosaving? Also Your DLC is loaded and checked? You mentioned this "content might not be available".

This is displayed when a mod is missing on a save that was using it. Volikhar Keep/Cathedralm is dawnguard DLC. Make sure the dawngaurd stuff is in there and checked in your load order.

i think he is one of the lucky people who got the dawnguard dlc for free because of steam error a while back it was news back then though shortly after that steam removed the dawnguard dlc licence from those users's accounts but people still had it in their hard drives because it got downloaded automatically to their hard drives. now OP must have reinstalled the game and dont have dawnguard dlc anymore coz it got wiped out during uninstallation thats why game is spawning him in sleeping giant inn.
