I think it is a continuation of the place object glitch. This is going to sound annoying but try dropping the item on the floor, leave, comeback in and then place the object in the case. This is what I do to keep things where I place them in general. Haven't tried it on the display cases yet.

This is the one dissapointment I have with hearthfire so far, I thought they would have fixed this issue and the grab and drop issue prior to this DLC.

im assuming yo should put them in your inventory

Should you just drag them from where you threw them directly to the spot you want it?

Don't add the item to your inventory or you will just have to start over.

Drop item, leave, travel, have fun, come back and DRAG the item to where you want it. Then it should stay.

Funny thing is I've never had this issue with Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas, but it happens so often in Skyrim I gave up...

Morrowind was actually really easy to decorate. All my houses there were full of collections and such.

Oblivion was a lot harder, but you could still do it and things generally stayed put.

Skyrim ... all but impossible really. The drop, leave re-enter and drag thing works, but it really should not be that hard to decorate one's home.

Oblivion still had quite a few issues for me, I didn't bother with decorating in there.

Placement system ought to be like the bookshevles with how many books you could place on them. If it's a big display case, naturally you should be able to store more items. If it's a smaller display, well, you get the picture...

As I am wandering through still furnishing I am starting to place things to test if they stay put on the racks, display cases and things, I never trust anything in this game with my treasures now without testing it first. So speaking of poltergeist's I dumped one of those toy dolls in the big display case in the entryway, and went and wandered around the rest of the house. When I returned it had already jumped out, must have reset when I went into the cellar. Decided to test it on something a bit more simple like a dwarven mace. Will try the old drop, exit, return and dump it in method with the doll on the next house.

That never worked for me, I would drop them leave sometimes fast travel some where then back and place then find them all over if I found them at all. and it does not matter which cases in which cities either the worse BEFORE hearthfire was in Windhelm they loved eating ANYTHING enchanted and was hit and miss with everything else Windstad ate my zepher and that may sound sixy but it wasn't I sort of liked that Bow...
