How to Kill a Dragon

Post » Sat Jun 19, 2010 10:42 pm

I'm just wondering what you guys think how we will combat dragons? As of know we know very little about the subject, but we know there are 20 dragon shouts that provide abilties. I think this implies dragons will be killable, but how? I'd be disappointed if that were as simple to take down as most enemies, tatics wise that is. I feel one should not be able to simply walk up to a dragon to slay it. For those who have played Demon's Souls, I think that the dragons should be able to easily be able to knock players down and should provide a challenge as the bosses did. Players should not be able to block their attacks, but must dodge them in order to avoid being knocked back. Slaying a Dragon should be unique yet epic each time you encounter one.

The player should have to find weaknesses or stratgies that provide an advantage in my opinon. It should almost never be an easy battle, players should have to prepare beforehand in order to hope to best one of these beast. Discuss, in your opinon, how dragons will be fought.(PS: Try to avoid saying "With Swords. hehe")

I hope there will be strategic ways of killing them, not just swinging your sword a thousand times just to put a dent in their health.

First you'd need to keep it from merely flying out of reach or have something to close that gap without having to depend on archery or magic exclusively. This game is for hulking Nords after all.

Don't you think that would be a little too easy.

Some of you do bring up a good point, how do we keep them from fleeing and how do we get them in range of melee weapons? Can we cripple their wings, or do they simply fight us on the ground?

Edit: Or do do we have to use projectiles to kill them?

We've defeated a giant metal being, a giant fleshy being, pretender-gods, a troll-monster that eats tough-as-nails Nord Barbarians for breakfast, the Troll-monster's sometimes-invisible mother who also eats Nords, two Daedric Princes, three for those who've beaten Battlespire, and an obnoxious, super-lucky Bosmer. Plus those who've played Redguard have already killed a Dragon.

They don't stand a chance.

Well we are going to be the Dragonborn so perhaps a special ability to give you an edge against dragons is a part of the whole package.

It has to be related to the fact we are dragonborn, and the fact that it specifically says in GI that we climb the peak to learn Thu'um. It also said somethign about a golden claw of some sort.

Get one in a cave, with a plenty of torches, and send in Cyrus to kill it. Hey, out of anyone in TES games, he is the only one to have slain a dragon.

Lead them into a river and drown them due to a silly AI glitch? ;)

Set traps around the perimeter with a thief then trigger the encounter and have the mechanical ambush blow up before he even reaches you

Shot for the hole

Go for the eye's Boo; GO FOR THE EYES

poison apple?

Lull it to sleep with a harp (music calms the savage beast after all..)

Find a friendly dragon with a broken tail that shoots fire with laser precison

or

Send in the fodder to soften it up while the thief loots its plunder, thus sidestepping the issue ;)

What about Dragonlings?

And with that, my posting on BGSF has come full circle. Only this time, no Gez to call me a heretic.
