You should post your level and combat type (battlemage, warrior, assasin, rogue, wizard, etc) to get advice on how to kill said falmer.

As a rogue, they fall down in one shot to my exquisite elven dagger (20 damage). I named it the Soulblade.

They're ridiculously easy to sneak attack if you're into that sort of thing.

I was actually wondering what I had to do to fight a falmer and not just one-shot them. Run up and punch one in the face I guess. Then one of them managed to notice me before I noticed him and he scared the living crap out of me so I continued to sneak attack them.

Well... when I light them on fire, they tend to die.

Sneak + Bow = Dead Falmer. The only ones that have ever given me trouble are the boss level ones, and even then the only one that got me close to death had a Centurion as back up.

a companion helps, also by then at least have the fire breath shout. That does help. healing potions and restoration in a pinch worked for me as well.

Yep. I brought Lydia with me when I fought the Falmer under Makarath. We still got killed a couple times when they massed on us and I was out of shouts, but we made it out ok in the end.

Falmer are blind, so that's one possibility. Move quietly and they should have a hard time finding you...and starting a battle with a sneak attack can only be a good thing!

However, i have to say that fighting falmer and those weird insects has to be one of the creepiest/hardest normal mob fights i've had. They swarm on you, and you never know where they're coming from...super creepy!

I had Janessa with me on Expert and still managed. It became difficult during a particular quest that I won't mention when the Falmer started using Dwarven Arrows (not sure why they call them Dwarven arrows when they should be called Dwemer Arrows). I had to fight off about 4 Falmer servants and 3 falmers all at once as an assassin (Thank Janessa for having horrible sneak and Bethesda for creating horrible companion AI). Took me two tries but I did get it on the second try... although it left me with no more healing potions.
