How to Kill a Wispmother at Level 7?

Post » Mon Jan 02, 2017 5:22 pm

Alright, so I am entirely new to Skyrim, and I'm currently a level 7. After completing the mission where you deliver Klimmek's supplies to High Hrothgar, rather than taking the marked trail down the mountain, I went off the path and took a shortcut down the steep sides of the mountain towards the town at the base of it. As I made my way downward, I came upon North Skybound Watch, and eventually entered the Skybound Watch Pass. Traversing through the pass, I soon reached South Skybound Watch. The problem is, when I exited the tower at South Skybound Watch, I encountered a Wispmother and a group of Wisps, and can't seem to find a way to defeat them. I've tried everything, but the Wispmother seems to always take powerful blows on both my magika, stamina, and health, preventing me from using spells or close-quarter weapons effectively against her. Any ideas on how to defeat the Wispmother at South Skybound Watch? Or am I too low of a level to be fighting her?

By heck. I'd rather a dragon than a Wispmother any day of the week. But I'll leave it to more experienced players to advise you. Welcome aboard.

I used a flame atronach to keep her busy and used flame spell on the wisps, then fire bolt(at the dragon lair close to Mehrunes Dagon's shrine), but I was lvl 14 or 15. Keep an eye on that summon and be ready to recast it often.

Run and never look back. Stop only when you enter Riverwood, go to Delphine's, order a good meal and think about your mistake. You're grounded mister. I told you again and again, WE DO NOT visit the wispmothers until we are at least level 20.

I'm usually dual wielding at that point (warrior, more or less). They're tough, but this takes them down fairly quick.

I guess I've just never experienced them at lower levels or something cause I've never had trouble. My assassins and mages can usually blow through them from a distance pretty easily kill the wisps first before aggroing the mother

Wait, my bad. Maybe I haven't encountered them at low level either. I was confusing it with this time I was running to Ivarstead for the Greybeard quest and had to fight them. But now I remembered I delayed that quest a bit and wasn't low level anymore.

Welcome! And just like was already said.. just hightail it out of there once you clear the door. Some tougher enemies have a minimum level that's well above what you're at, so there's no shame in bailing.

You'll want to take the wisps out first.

It's true, your level may be low for this type of enemy. You didn't also say what type of character you are playing. If you are a mellee warrior type, it is very difficult to get close to her, she'll shower you with offensive spells and weaken or kill you. Your May have a better chance fighting her with ranges weapons like bows and staffs. Bring lots of Resist Frost spells potions with you. Good luck!

Thanks!

Haven't found a flame atronach or fire bolt yet, as I haven't reached the area you listed. But thanks for the advice anyhow.

All sound like effective strategies, but it might just be because my weapons and spells are too weak to effectively combat her. Thanks for the advice.

That's the only part I seem to only succeed in. Wisps are irritating, but not too difficult to kill. But then there is the Wispmother, which seems to be far beyond my strength to defeat. Thanks for the advice.

I can certainly see why, lol.

So from the general consensus, I think I will just bail out and fight the Wispmother another day. Thanks for all your inputs! I'll keep this in mind for other bosses beyond my reach to defeat.

This is one of the problems with going off the beaten track at low levels, you'll find plenty of things that will kill you easily. I remember when I decided to wander up a mountain once "because it was there" and bumped into Krosis. That did not end well lol.

It makes the world feel more real imo. I remember one day when i was exploring a snowy mountain at level 7 with my fine iron axe when the game threw a white bear at my face. Next thing i saw was a loading screen :P

Lesson learned. XD

That's what I like about my first experience to the Greybeards... it was truly a journey with perils like that. I didn't know where I was going, so got into trouble often. And then culminates with that damn troll up on High Hrothgar.
