How to level up smithing the fastest way?

Post » Thu Mar 27, 2014 4:31 am

Hey guys, I'm trying to get my smithing pretty high to where I can craft daedric armor and such. What would be the fastest way to level it up?

Farm a boss that drops green or blue weapons and deconstruct them. I did it with a Lvl 5 boss that dropped a green fire staff and I got my woodworking up about 10 Lvls and all my abilitys to Lvl IV fighting him over and over. I was only Lvl 3 when I started fighting him and Lvl 6 by my first visit to town to deconstruct. So I'll be doing the same when it goes live

Didnt they nerf boss farming? But to the OP deconstructing seems to be the fastest way to level .

Alternatively you and some friends can daisy-chain creating and deconstructing. Everyone makes X number of Y item and passes to the right. Deconstruct, make more, and pass to the right….repeat until you're out of mats.

My initial impressions of the crafting system were great, till i found out how easy it is to level it and lack of use for crafted gear at end game :/

Let's be honest, nothing is "difficult" in this game really, only time sinks.

Well, that's a captivating argument you have there! (Explain...)

even if crafted gear isn't the best gear possible (I can't say either way) legendary doesn't drop so you have to craft your gear up to that. Seems like crafting is fairly useful gear wise.

From what i heard you dont even need proper crafting to make an item to legendary, though the temper/tannin expertise will make you require less upgrade items for a succesful upgrade.

to the OP:

craft mid lvl daggers and or belts rapidly(first mat. tier are the lvl 6 daggers e.g.) until you are out of mats in conjunction with a friend doing the same than trade those with eachother and salvage your friends daggers. rince and repeat till you are caped.

Crafting talents also make it easier to get those materials in the first place.

Is the OP aware that you can actually increase the level of the item to be crafted? It defaults to 1 if I'm not mistaken and if you was to craft at that then it would take you an eternity and waste your mats. I made this mistake my very first beta in January and I wondered why i was getting nowhere fast!

I believe this is incorrect. If legendary gear does not drop what are you extracting to get said mats? I was getting dwarven oil from ore extraction. At higher lvl / talent do you get a miniscule chance of a legendary?

Um, there is no Blacksmithing level requirement for Daedric armor. Daedric armor is a style like Nord armor or Redguard armor. You need to find a Racial Motif book in order to craft Daedric armor and those books drop very rarely. If by some miracle you find a Daedric Racial Motif book in the Wailing Prison, you could craft Daedric armor almost immediately.

Although not confirmed, I think the Daedric Racial Motif book is only available in the higher level PVE zones.

Nonsense. I am not going to link in posts and such because quite honestly, it will help me out the more people misguided by these claims.

This is correct. Any player can upgrade any piece of gear from white --> green --> blue --> purple --> gold even if he

  • has no idea how crafting works
  • has never leveled up any crafting line
  • has invested zero points into any crafting skill
  • has never visited a crafting station before
  • has not learned any traits for any item
  • just left the tutorial after only a few minutes of game play
  • cannot even make the item he is upgrading

You could mail the upgrade tempers to a brand new character who leaves the tutorial, heads straight to a crafting station for the first time, and he could upgrade your epic voidstone Veteran Rank 10 greatsword that you just got from an end game Trial boss to become legendary.

The only difference between him and a crafter who has spent years mastering his profession, learning every possible trait and knowing how crafting works in ESO inside and out is that it will take a few more tempers to upgrade your item.

This, and motif books are tradeable, so you can simply buy the ability to craft daedric gear with gold.

What I would love to know is if the looks of dropped VR gear reflect the player's race choice, or are the looks independent of race? Also does the VR gear shown in the character select screen reflect crafted VR gear or dropped VR gear?

They nerfed that too, you no longer have guaranteed materials from deconstructing and if you do get something, it's extremely low, like if u spent 6 ingots doing the item, you MAY get 1 ingot back if anything at all.

well than the "metrall extraction" perk will become worthy eventually.

This makes grinding crafting useless in the end. They should just limit the output of your craft through the character's level of crafting or you can't craft legendaries if you're only level 1 craft.

Ore extraction can provide the tempers. Unsurprisingly, the legendary ones don't appear very often (and I wouldn't count on seeing many of them from low-end ores no matter what), but the talents do help out here. You may also obtain tempers from the hireling talent. I don't know whether it's possible to get better-than-tier tempers by breaking down items, but that's another possibility, and the talents would almost certainly factor into that.

I know that I got legendary woodworking temper during the beta while breaking down wooden items and refining material at level 15, and I certainly didn't have any legendary items during that period.

Well what Im hoping to see is improved traits depending on your crafting skill, making it possible to make better gear than drops if you master enchanting and blacksmithing (i.e.)

Lvling crafting would then be worth it, albeit long.

Also the deconstructing reconstructing strat to lvl up fast got nerfed big time in last beta (still viable though) but I found it only worth it on armor pieces using 10+ ingots, also iron stops lvling you around lvl 10 blacksmithing, after you need to start using better ores so it felt rather balanced.
