How Likely Is It the New Engine Features Internet Connectivi

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:23 am

The reason for this Poll is that I've just read some troubling information over at XCastOnline.com stating:

Back to that MMO, though. Buried in the court transcripts of the ongoing Bethesda vs. Interplay suit, the publisher seemingly made a bit of a slip up by outing a new "World of WarCraft-type MMO" that they've invested "tens and tens of millions of dollars" in since 2007, and have "close to a hundred" staffers working on. That's quite a massive undertaking. Unless they're creating an entire new world, fiction and the like, the only thing Bethesda have that resembles a WoW experience is Elder Scrolls.

This January of 2010 article also goes on to say:

"As it turns out, that seems to be the case. VG247 claim that this MMO is indeed set in the Elder Scrolls world, and it's a game that was supposed to have been announced in 2009, but is "very close to reveal by now." Hmm. Prior to E3, maybe? Then the question is, if they've been developing this since 2007, and Bethesda themselves stated in court that an MMO takes only four years, could we see both Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas and Elder Scrolls Online this year?"

There are specific mentions of MMO in there. But the only game we know that any details have been released about are Skyrim. So I ask again: isn't it possible, http://xcastonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1587:btehesda-mention-wow-type-mmo-sources-say-its-elder-scrolls&catid=39:news&Itemid=104 that there is at lease SOME kind of Internet Connectivity Scheme embedded in the new engine?

I mean, how GREAT WOULD THAT BE?!!!!!

Skyrim wont be an MMO, nor will it have multiplayer. I don't' see any other point for online capabilities, so I'm going to go ahead and say I'm 99% sure it wont have it.

You forgot the answer "No, because the developers have said many times that there will be no multiplayer."

Not this thread again....

Please, no. TES has always been and will always be a solely single-player game. Multiplayer is great for many series, TES is not one of them. What's great about TES is that they deliberately forgo multiplayer to make the best single-player experience possible. Either you take away from the main game to add multiplayer or you forgo multiplayer to focus on the main game. You can't have both.

Why do we need so many options? It's "yes" or "no". And, the answer is, I'm almost sure, no.

About as likely as donkeys flying...or this thread not getting closed and redirected to the multiplayer thread.

None of your "no" options fit. How about just having a "No" option that says "No, because we already know there won't be."

NO! KEEP TES AS SINGLE PLAYER ONLY!

No offense, but I'm sick of coming into a thread and seeing each of your responses being all caps with like 15 font.... If your going to type in all caps can you at least make it normal font size?

Hahahaha, so funny, you mean like how Todd Howard, in 2008, told numerous magazines that they WEREN'T working on any new Elderscrolls games? You mean like that? Hahahahahaa, you're too funny dude... hahahaha

Skyrim will not be an MMO or have any online play. It's a single player game. However, there is ZeniMax online who I think are working on some sort of online game, right? That could be an online spin-off of ES.

Why are you making random words in your post different sizes?

Anyway, you're taking it out of context. What he actually said was "there are no current plans for Elder Scrolls 5" which could mean anything from "we don't have any plans to announce it in the near future" to "It's not on the drawing board yet." As we all know, Todd Howard has a habit of giving very ambiguous answers to interview questions.

Either way it's irrelevant. As I said before, Bethesda will never take away development time from the single player, which has always been the series' main and only focus, to slap on a multiplayer.

Given that Skyrim is confirmed to use Steam, I suppose some level of internet connectivity will be there, if only to do simple callbacks for Achievements or recording your gaming statistics. So I guess that's like half an inch closer to multiplayer over Oblivion. :hubbahubba:
