How long does corpses last?

Post » Fri Jul 09, 2010 6:43 pm

I was wondering how long does the corpses of the ennemies we killed last.

Since am playing Fallout 3 GOTY on the PS3, and want to minimise the save file, I wonder how long ... last.

I would like a number close to the exact time it takes.

Thanks for your answers.

Some are set as "persistent" and will never disappear.

Most, as mentioned, will disappear on the cell reset. This means after three days of you not visiting the cell. If you travel through a location on a regular basis they may not disappear at all (but usually will).

If in an area with a lot of creatures some early kills will disappear during the fight. Fallout 3 has a limit to the number of creatures it keeps track of and will delete some if you go over this number. That's why it's a good idea to loot creatures in large areas and just dump the stuff on the floor. It won't disappear with the corpse in that case.

Looting containers is also a good idea even if you are only going to dump the stuff on the ground because it will allow the container to restock faster.

Ok, thanks.

So that means I should not go to and around Rivet city for about 3 days... there's an super mutant next to the bridge, and around the Jefferson Memorial.

But for the goo piles and ash piles, I heard they never disappear... is it true? (I made about 7 of them... am carefull with laser guns... but am rich in those ammos)

AFAIK, containers in Fallout 3 do not restock at all. Unlike Oblivion where most containers were not safe due to respawn.

False, some containers are marked as safe. Safes, Nuka Cola Machines, First Aid kits. Etc. most containers do respawn as far as I know.

Corpses in general are erased in three in game days.

Filing cabinets seem to respawn insanely fast. I can empty them on the way through a building, go to the next cell, clear that, and on the way back through the first cell again find ammo in some of the filing cabinets again.

No idea why.

True Story- I'm conviced with the heavy amount of items in my filing cabinet in Megaton, I'm convinced Filing Cabinets are black holes. You might have just msised an item once

He means he wants to lower how huge the file is. IE 6000kb down to 3468 kb.

I cleared out the hospital tonight. Emptied every single container and dumped the stuff by the front door, then went to rescue the Rangers. Came back afterwards (next morning game time) and all the Super Mutant corpses were still there as I'd left them. And about half the garbage cans had refilled.

Not possible I "missed" that many containers during my cleanout.

Currently, I'm slowly walking home with 1600 units of gear to sell.

I remember one time I'd killed some Enclave and I went to sleep on a bed on the upper floor of a barn. I wake up after three hours to see the same guys I killed walking inside. I killed them again and went on my way.

Me to, in my cabinet I have ALOT of things...well with Mothership Zeta it add up a ton (I wonder how my caracter was able....to just live with that on it's shoulders?... a ton is crushing heavy.).

I play the GOTY on PS3. 10 mb+ = slowdowns . ...But it's the first time I play it and am in the 4 mb ...but some people reported having no problems...

Well, you could dump your stuff on the ground/in a container and fast travel with your item weight lowered, then take some items back and vice-verca...

Did you get to loot them twice?

I'm weird. I won't fast-travel because it makes no sense. But I'll walk home with an insane amount of stuff (after I've gotten past the encumbrance limit with my list of "must takes"....new weapons and valuable resources....I figure I might as well take everything I come acrosss), in this case I hit 3001 units by the time I got back to Megaton. Game really needs a weight where you can't move at all.

More on point, on the way home I was slowly approaching a dead raider to take his loot and just before I got into activation range he faded away before my eyes.

Corpses inside your house never disappear. I know.

Do you know cherry from Duvoks place. You can tell her that you'll take her to Rivet City but instead take her to your home and wack her. Good decoration!

For the 3 day time laps before disappearing of the corpses, is it a "our real world 3 days" or "3 complete day game time of the in-game time" or "3 days no mater what"(wich I doubt on that one.) ?.

And how about those goo piles and ash piles... I heard they NEVER disappear.

I'm pretty sure I've had goo piles and ash piles disappear.

Just remember it's three full days of in-game time during which you never enter that area. Anytime the game reloads the "cell" (an area of the game) it starts counting the three days again.
