How long does a Dweller have to explore before...?

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 5:36 am

I apologize for cutting the title short, but The title only gives me so much room. I wanted to know how long you have to have a Dweller out scavenging before they start running into rare or legendary gear. Alot of my weapons are complete tat mostly ranging from 2-3 to 6-8 damage and the like. When will I start picking up weapons that are like 12 or 13 damage and the like? Weapons that'd be useful against stronger enemies like Mole Rats? I've got one Dweller that has roughly 8-9 of his Luck stat thats been Scavenging for a little over 13 hours and he hasn't found any weapons that I'd find useful. I've been getting alot of outfits that I find useful though that raise 3 of a particular stat which will REALLY help out my efficiency(currently he has 1 Nightwear for Charisma, 1 Lab Coat for Intelligence, 2 Wasteland Gear for Endurance, 1 Handyman Jumpsuit for Agility, 1 Armored Vault Suit, and 1 Formal Wear for Luck and I have another one who's getting other such useful outfits). I REALLY need more weapons that does more than pelt the enemies.

I've gotten my best stuff from lunchbox packs. Specifically a gatling laser, a sniper rifle, suits and characters. I don't buy any, but I always try to complete the lunchbox quests first. The best thing I've found exploring were flamethrowers, IIRC I have maybe 3 or 4 over 3 vaults, so they aren't common. I put my best armor and best weapon on my explorers and give them a ton of stimpacks and a few radaways (they don't seem to use radaways anywhere near as often) and then send them out for hours, resurrecting/returning them and sending the same ones out again. My best guy (with a lunchbox suit and a lunchbox gatling laser) on one of my 3 vaults is currently level 43 and can survive for over a day at a time, but still usually returns with a buttload of crap.

I have a few Fatman weapons that I've gotten from Lunchboxes but I do need more and the game DOES tell you that you get better stuff the longer he stats out there, well... He's been out there a LONG ass time, so your answer doesn't really answer my question. How long does it take of Scavenging before I start getting Rare?

I have had the best luck with getting a good weapon when sending out someone with a good range of built up stats, but making sure they have a decent luck stat as well. I just leave them in the game room for days to build it up. I don't know for sure, but I think Luck Stat factors in to finding a blue item? I haven't been measuring, but it seems like they are out more than 6 hours at a minimum before picking up anything useful.

And also, once I notice they have a blue item, I just recall them,. I have never had an exploring dweller find more than one blue.

From my experience if you are really lucky, you can get legendary even from broadcasting tower (2-5 minutes from vault) but YOU must be lucky, dwellers luck 10 is not enough :) Mostly my explorers start to find rare (blue) items somwhere after 45 hrs. And there is National Guard Depot at cca 60Hrs, where the chance of legendary is highest (even when it has been nerfed in newest update). Today my explorer found there hardened shotgun 9-12 dmg.

I haven't got any legendary weapons yet, but my guys get good rares ranging from 12 - 17 around 60 hours of exploring

I once left a LV50 dweller out in the wastes for two consecutive days, for a total of about 52 hours. I got zero blue items out of it.

I've only ever gotten them from Lunchboxes. The RNG here seems a bit tilted. How on earth are you supposed to get items if you're not buying boxes? The game only hands out an objective worth a box every rare now and then, then I get one per week.

Now that I'm desperately trying to rebuilt a Mole Rat ravaged Vault, I really need those items. I can't weather another outbreak, but I really don't want to have to destroy half my Vault until population is up again.

You're basically guaranteed blue items at 60 hours. I have 3 out at a time and usually for 3 days at a time, that's where I get my blue items. I got a whack of them now.

I've got 4 legendary characters from lunchboxes, but I have yet to get a single weapon from a lunch box.

Oh, balls. So if I'd waited eight more hours, huh? Damn, and she still had a few Stimpaks left. Noted for future. Thanks, sir.

I've gotten a Combat Shotgun and a Hardened Sniper Rifle from boxes, plus Dr. Li. Other than that, I mostly get the bloody Caps +500 one.

Have a dweller that got 96 hours into the wasteland before he had to turn back. Zero legendary items and ten rare items were found. The rares were all found after 60 hours. Wish we could kill Mr Handy. 75 hours out and he tells me a joke? I wasn't laughing.

I sent two guys out with high stats, one made it to 50 hrs with a butt load of stuff, but no rare items. The other made 70 hours and only got two rare items, one of them being a hardened bb gun with did 4damage... wooooooo

Only annoying thing is I have to upgrade my storeroom to another three rooms so I can let them in the door with their loot.

Most of my explores survive for 2 to 3 days, and generally come back with a couple of rare items, and a load of junk. Sometimes you get one with no rares and sometimes you get 4 or 5. Although I have just had someone pick up a set of power armour within the first half an hour.

Did you know you can sell items on the collect screen by tapping on them, rather than having to build extra store rooms?

That "1/2 hour power armor" (actually: 00:00 rare/legendary) is almos 99,9% sure the negative time glitch.

I haven't got crap from the wasteland except huge piles of bb guns and semi worthless clothing. I've actually found some great weapons in lunch boxes though, weird. A Merv, Tuned Laser riffle, some crazy thing called a Magnetotron (sp?) looks like a huge gauss riffle or something, just to name a few. Plus a few power armors and Legendary characters.

The blurb about the longer a dweller is exploring the better the equipment they find is somewhat misleading. Time out only increases your CHANCE of getting better gear.

I had a level 3 dweller that I sent out wearing a nightie and carrying a rusty 10mm pistol. I looked in on her about an hour later and she was wearing power armor. Three hours later she was carrying a rusty plasma rifle. When I got her back I also discovered that she had a tattoo that read "Property of the Great Khans" (no, I did not ask).

Seriously, most of the gear you get is not very good, but the more you send your dwellers out, the more likely they will return with something. Just keep sending dwellers out and they will on occasion bring back something really nice,

Yeah, as stated above...its only the chance that increases with time. I got a Fat Man from a several minute trip with a low level. I'm recently getting a lot of sniper rifles...oddly enough.

They have some tips and tricks on that site.

There's also an efficiency spreadsheet available here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Nai09D_aM2syl3iPP5hkveDcOUwhsoUDR6s1lwC0e8c/htmlview?pli=1&sle=true#

This will give you some tips and hints on how to get good items really fast. Currently I have a Level 2 Endurance and Luck training room. Once my people are maxed in Endurance I'm sending them into the Nuka Cola plant and my luck people (who are at level 1) will take their spot. The goal is to have about 6 maxed stat level 1 dwellers sent into the wastes. It may take a great deal of time, but it should be worth it.

The 60 hour mark improves your chances of getting items, as it opens up an encounter that has higher (not quarantined) chance of getting blue. However there is no minimum time you have to spend out to get good stuff. If you are very very lucky, you can pick up a nasty rocket launcher at 30 min mark, I have had this happen exactly once so far - however if you run out with low SPECIAL stats, the likelihood of this happening is very low. As of yet there is no way to quarantine good item drops - however you can do various things to improve your chances:

- Send out lvl 1 characters with highly trained SPECIAL stats - the higher the better - emphasize endurance and luck over everything else.

(lvl 1 character with 70 SPECIAL points, powerarmor and gatling laser and 25 stimpacks/radaways can stay out 8+ days, no joke)

- Use gear to bring your SPECIAL stats over the 10 point training cap - again, emphasize luck and endurance over other stats.

- Equip your explorers with the best weapons you can spare - your stats boost your damage yes, but the baseline is set by the weapon you use

- In later stages don't be afraid to let your dweller die - caps are a non-issue after a certain point and you will want to get maximum performance out of your explorers

(it costs 1000 caps to revive a lvl 50 dweller)

- ALWAYS give your dweller 25 stimpacks - and some Radaways, 10-15 depending on your stock and how many explorers you are sending out.

- Lastly if you are sending excess dwellers out to die, make sure you click their tombstones to see what they have equipped before removing the corpse - they might have scored big and you may want to revive them after all.

Radaways are almost unneeded once Endurance gets to 11+ (10 from stats plus some from gear). While later on there are some "radiation Events", the amount is negligigle and 11+ End dwellers actually tend to "heal" that radiation by themselves.

I send most of my 10+ End dwellers with 25Stims/5Rads... sometimes they come back with small amounts of radiation, but until now they have yet to use a single Rad-away out of those 5.

- - - -

And, If you plan to send dwellers to die, a much faster way is to just build an isolated killroom (no other room touching it, only elevator access) anywhere in your vault, send your dwellers there and rush the room until they're all dead.

The room size doesn't matter much (only, the larger it is the more dwellers you can "dispose off" at the same time), but upgrading the room to tier 3 makes things go faster since hazards are more dangerous. Then, once the dwellers are "dealt with", let the hazard clear itself (since the room is isolated, hazzard won't be able to spread and will automatically die once it maxes out).

Actually, if you use the checkered pattern for your vault, all your rooms can become kill rooms.

I have 15-20 dwellers running the wastelands all the time now, the best I have gotten is some legendary clothing and upper legendary weapons, NOT the highest legendary weapons on the list, those only come from lunchboxes in my experience. Also, no power armor from the wastes as of yet. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Shelter_weapons~~ weapons listed here...the highest ones in legendary only come from lunchboxes that I have found.

I have had them out 4 days plus to the limit of loot...they get no more after 100 I think, and it just sits on the same loot.

Well after the 60 hour event failed to get something I stayed out there and around 80 plus hours I'm mostly getting only rare and legendary items now. So like the game said stay out past 60 hours expect to rack in "legendary" items often. I have a screen shot but not sure if I can upload it.

One dweller found blackhawk within a few mins (I know it sux but it's legendary so my point is valid). And I sent a couple people put to die and one found miss launcher and the other found confessor cromwells rags both within a half hour of being sent out. Once I saw that it was immediate revival and a spot in my vault. I've found all my strongest stuff (accept vengence and one Mirv I got from an objective lunchbox) in the wastes..... I have 2 MIRV (one box and one found) vengeance (box) hardened missile launcher (found) and miss launcher (found).... Still can't seem to find power armor though......and them nerfing the national guard depot is crap......I've had 15+ dwellers reach it (6 within an hour period) in the last week and the ONLY thing I've gotten from it other than 125xp was a hardened flamer......I already have 10+ Verrying flamers I don't need anymore!

I think S.P.E.C.I.A.L counts a lot! See the prompt situations: Sometime you find a locker (S to open), Sometime you hear something or need to choose paths (P or maybe I to choose, check things),Sometimes you find a Traveller (C to get gifts), I to solve problems, A to avoid strong monsters or dodge to kill them, and luck to find legendary weapons on the ground, or buildings/lockers etc...

Just think link a regular RPG!
