I believe they last until you hit something - IE you get one poison attack. At least, this was true of Oblivion.

And poisons can help if you are a stealth guy - im not sure how powerful poisons can get, but if its anything like Oblivion, then they can get pretty powerful.

I was excited when I first read that you could apply poison to a weapon, but quickly disappointed when I learned it was only for one hit. I wish it was set up to have one application work for say 20 shots for example, or 20 minutes, but one having it wear off after only one shot is honestly not worth the hassle & cost, unless it's super effective/strong.

Depends on the poison. If they do damage to health/stamina/magicka, not as much without getting the perk to make them last two strikes. If they apply debuffs like slow speed, 100% magicka regen debuff, or paralysis, then one strike is all you need.

Poisons last 1 hit on a weapon and for some reason if you duel wield you can only poison the weapon in your right hand. Personally I use poisons on my bow against dragons to get them on the ground faster.

There is a ice wraith or ice wraith blood that does 50pts, that's pretty good

They did this for balance reasons. I can't find the thread right now, but a few days ago someone worked out the exact damage potential numbers and discovered poisons that can do 2400 HP worth of damage are possible. That is enough to one shot anything in the game. BOOM! Instant death.

And as a thief and assassin, even the normal low level poisons are awesome. Pouring poison down a sleeping NPCs throat is the easiest way to kill someone silently there is. Or what about a group of enemies too strong for you? Hit one of them with a Frenzy poison and watch them turn on themselves.

Poisons are extremely useful since they can paralyze, slow, make enemies weaker to your attacks, sap their ability to do power attacks or cast magic, etc. etc. You just have to put in the effort with potions and poisons and get rewards out of it.

This. Weakness to poison is a *****. Also, he forgot to mention that poisons can completely shut down an opponent. Real damage comes from power attacks, and those power attacks come from stamina. However, a 90 second -100% stamina regen can basically turn their damage off. Mages are the same game. Get a -100% magic regen on them, and theyre toast within seconds.

I'd like to know how this fellow is dealing over 2k damage with a single dose. We have no math to prove if weakness to poison stacks, and i'm close to max alchemy and my poisons can hit for almost 80 damage.

The only ones i dont get are the concentrated poisons, which is the effect of a "ravage" poison. All i know is that it deals less damage...

I'm pretty sure that "Ravage" means that the target can't regain that lost health.

Well... i can't really explain it, it just seems obvious somehow... Ravage is a word that feels like it has "impact" :)

Please clarify how you do that.... do you just walk up to someone when they are asleep? Do you need to equip the poison etc?

There's a perk in the Pickpocket tree which allows you to do this. It shows up as "Poisoned" in the constellation interface, but I assume it was supposed to be "Poisoner". Just pickpocket them and plant the poison instead of taking something.

I do question how well poisoning scales, though... At level 46, I'm making takedowns with a 210-damage bow (x3 sneak attack) or a pair of 61-damage daggers (x15 sneak attack). I haven't perked into Alchemy at all, so I'm sure I'm not making the most effective poisons possible, but the Damage Health poisons I can make will do maybe 30 damage and I don't think I've found any poisons as loot that do more than 50. When my opening shot is already hitting for over 630 damage at range or 915 per hand in melee, putting another 50 points of poison damage on top of that doesn't really seem worthwhile. Killing with poison alone (going back to the Poisoned/Poisoner perk) doesn't seem viable at this point in the game either, given that the non-sneak-attack damage from one of my daggers is better than the highest poison damage I've seen.

However I miss the long term damage potions in Oblivion, The 2400 hp potion uses an unique quest ingredients as far as I know.
To me it look like damage health poisons is an waste, Is I understand we are talking about around 100 hp damage at max level, however we got rebuffs including paralyze and weaknesses, weakness to fire and fire enchant sounds like an win.

Anyway alchemy is very useful in it self because of the buff potions,
