so how long is this game really?

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 8:42 am

It's as long as you make it.

I've played for 60 hours now and have yet to complete a single quest outside of Whiterun Hold.

This.

If you:

  • Walk everywhere instead of fast-travelling
  • Mix in random side-quests, activities, and exploration with main questline progress

...the game will last for hundreds of hours.

If you:

  • Use fast-travel to beam yourself everywhere
  • Rush through the main questline and other major questlines, leaving only minor sidequests
  • Take advantage of cheap ways to become powerful quickly (like smithing in it's present state)

...you'll likely start losing interest in the game within the first 50 hours.

I have put about 25 hours into the game and I haven't been doing quite a lot. The game is huge.

Where does the game tell you how many hours? I have a hard time understanding how people have 40+ hours logged. The game has been out a week and I work 40 hours a week. Are some people playing this game as much time as I work? WOW

Over 60 hours and I am only level 20. You can walk around in the woods exploring for 4 hours easily. Seeing the landscape is a reward in itself in this game. And I still haven't finished questing in Whiterun.

I spent 700 hours on Morrowind, and never actually beat the main quest. I put 300 hours into Oblivion and had a hard time finding any more quests at that point. I've put 105 hours into Skyrim, and I'd say I am only 30, maybe 40% done. And I plan on replaying the game as a sneaky assassin type mage.

I haven't been capable of playing video games for over an hour or two without losing interest since I was 25, around 2004 or so. I thought it was from getting old and losing some part of my imagination to the harsh reality of life. But Skyrim has reignited that, I end up playing 12 hours in a day easily once I get warmed up. I freelance and don't have to worry about a job at the moment however.

I've put in 43 hours and I've only been to three main cities so far. I haven't even seen the entire west or southeast side of Skyrim lol

I clocked about 21-25 hours for the main quest. I did all the Thieves Guild quests and 10 or more sidequests, including getting into the college of Winterhold and maybe one mission there.

Wow, the only way to play slower is to play pigme mode. That is start a character, go straight to the nearest camp and live there. Sleep, hunt for meals and talk to passer by's. All of which you could do in this game. I would say it's ok to do any quests you pick up from passer by's. Obviously you turn off all markers, no fast travel etc.

Like all their games you can play them for 100's of hours.

The main quest if you dont totally rush it is probably as long as most other games which is 20-40 hours. With sidequests this game is easily over a 100 hours.

I think that sandbox games such as this one are a great value for youir money. This is before even trying new characters, mods, expansions, or official DLCs.

Ah the beauty of TES games. There as long as you want them to be. 52 hours in I'm level 29 but there's still 3 cities I haven't even seen yet. Take that mixed with the mathmatical level cap is 75 and the 100+ dungeons I still have to explore and I'd say I'll be playing for at least 300+ hours. So if your a completionist like me, there you go

Devs claim 300+, but in all honesty, we have no idea. I mean really; It's only been out a week.
There is no time limit. There is no 'one and only way' to play the game. TES games have a track record of providing years of entertainment. From what I've experienced in TES5 so far, and knowing patches will be forthcoming (as always, no stress), this one could do the same. Time will tell as always.
I still play Daggerfall and that's been...

Jeez Louise, I'm old.

There are people who have 2500+ hours on a single character in Oblivion, many others with over 1000 hours. I have no doubt that Skyrim's Radiant Story makes even higher numbers than that easily possible.

I will put in several thousand hours into this game. I put over two thousand hours in Oblivion and that much or more in Morrowind and I foresee me putting a lot more than that into Skyrim. The depth of the world is outstanding.

Bah, you're still a baby. What you were actually experiencing was a sub-conscious realization of the mediocrity of contemporary video games.

For the OP, I could give a reply about how many hours I've spent playing gamesas games since Daggerfall, but from other replies I will assume you should understand now. :)

I've played DAO and i just beat ME2 today and they were nowhere near the length i thought they would be. i think i played DAO for about 30-35 hours before i beat it and i didn't really feel like going back fro another playthrough on a different character. as for ME2, 32 hours and i beat everything. in fact, i have played borderlands the longest of all my SP games. i have several days in that game.

I'm really looking for something long. not fake long like ME2. it felt short. it felt like most of my time was spent mining for minerals. i finished all the quests before going into the omega 4 relay and then it just... ended.

now i saw the thread of how long people have spent in skyrim and it seems like most are hovering around 30-50 hours. are you guys close to being finished or is there a lot left to do? i really want something that i can actually play for a long time.

Try oblivion with shivering isles expansion.

43 hours already - done a few quests in Whiterun, dungeon crawls, exploring, side quests, tons of content left. Easily over 100 from the looks of things.

ovber 50+ hours and have only done 1 full questline + a lot of the main quest.

I would say realistically about 150 hours.
