How long will it take you to download 28.12 GB?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 3:06 am

It will take me about 9-12 hours to download on my connection.

Unfortunately, I'll have to go to work that Tuesday. And I can't fake being sick. My boss is a huge Fallout nut too, and has already pre-ordered the Collector's Edition. She guarantees me I will have to work, because SHE will be taking the day off! :D

Just chuckles.

edit

He says "set it off at midnight. It might be done by the time you go to work. Or.. set it off before work, be done when you get home."

I very rarely do digital downloads and will NEVER get a digital copy of a big title like Fallout.

My main reasoning is that I don't like how muddled ownership rights become once the physicality of the product is out of the question. I already can't just up an install or play a digital game due to needing internet, even though I do have internet (albeit very slow).

What's to stop a company from demanding more money from me for playing thier game after I bought it? Not to mention the fact that anyone with malicious intent can easily delete the game from my library and the licenses for it from my account.

The cons severely outweight the pros.

"Only"?
Theres places on this planet where even commercially, 30GB/s is possiable. So, figuring a consumer could 11/10 the best he can get? Its but a minute (being extremely modest) from installation.

I mean, ill get it downloaded in 2-4 hours..

Always hoped thered be a pre-release for the actual game, then the key on release.
Havent said no yet..

Ontop of that (citing dead rising 3 as a perfect example.. 16gb update) there may be a massive patch they bring out on release day..

Well you're obviosly not living in neuland...the place where billions are wasted for refugees and non for actual infrastructure.

But seriosuly 30Gb/s is extreme.

Yeah, 20 Mbps is actually pretty slow by modern standards. But like i said, good enough for me. For now. The Evil Within (~60GB) did take closer to 8 hours, so i'll need to upgrade when most games start reaching those sizes.

Skyrim is 13 gigs according to my steam. Thats also with the DLCs and HD texture packs.

The base no DLC install would probably be around 5 or 6 gigs, maybe a little more. If I had to guess the bigger install size is taken up by the art assets being a lot higher quality with the new power of the consoles and what not.

Theres supercomputers that're starting to hit near TB levels, under circumstance. 30GB/s is able commercially. You'd be lucky - and im guessing the right kinda setup - but again, its possiable.

I live in rural England, i know of people getting 2GB/s here.. Not sure if thats due to a more spread out fibre optic network, given the UK is tiny in comparison with the USA though

This makes this thread irrelevant then. As the size is clearly inaccurate.

What's really weird if your bandwidth strong enough it will download the game in 2 hours, i know because i downloaded unity and it only took 3 hours. Unity a 51 gb game now with dlc included.

It will depend mainly of Steam capacity, but I can download at about 88 Mb/s.

Who cares how long it will take to download fallout 4....it doesn't matter how long if it takes 5, 10, 30, minutes or all day, this happens for any game you buy? Good Grief?

Should be about 6 to 8 hours but it doesn't matter, I'll prelod it on PS4 and be ready to play on the 1st second at unlock time.

It's fully paid now so the second they allow preloads I'll be ready.

Eh...Depends on the alignment of the stars sometimes, man.

Some days I can manage a 4gb download on steam in no time. Other times, I may as well clean the house, run some errands, go see a movie and see how it's looking in the morning. Which is probably how Fallout 4 is gonna go if that's the actual size of the game.

Wake up, set the download, have breakfast. Watch some youtube over coffee. Do some laundry. Play some MGS5 in the mean time. Lunch. Go to work. Come home, and by then I should be able to rock n roll.

... that will contain a product key and a 25 MB launcher that proceeds to download the game.

My PC has a DVD drive, but not a blu-ray. Putting the whole game on DVD would probably require several discs.
