How long with out modding?

Post » Mon May 24, 2010 4:31 pm

I won't download a mod if I don't like the effects. Better Bodies was okay, but the hands look liked carpal tunnel, and the better heads didn't match the skin tones of the bodies(especially on the Dunmer). Then the Better Clothes didn't do much for the game. If someone could make a solid mod that would not only update the bodies, but the heads, armor, and clothes together, and match them to look right, then I would consider downloading it.

Play the game through once. Love it. Play it again using a completely different character style. If things begin to get dull, spend a weekend locked in my room with no lights on except that of the construction set wiki. Try to remember my TESNexus and Planetelderscrolls passwords. Get to modding. It'll probably start slow, but give it a month and I'll have a good 11 gigs of mods on my hard drive.

Not a huge fan of mods, plus, I play on the console. I can play on PC, but, I enjoy the game much more on the console.

I'll get it on console first, then get it on PC and start modding when I know it inside out

I have a Mac :(

What's that have to do with you using mods? You can play TES, or any other PC game, on your mac. Provided you buy a microsoft windows OS.
-Download Bootcamp (free)
-Buy Windows XP (or vista if you're stupid)
-Install Bootcamp, and then install XP (or vista, if your stupid)
Voila, 100% windows OS on your hard drive that lets you switch from a mac to a PC with no trouble at all, all that is required is you restart your mac, hold down "option", pick windows to boot in, and there you go.

Don't buy XP. It's 10 years old. It's about time to hang that old hat up.

Buy Windows 7. It's a lot faster and better than Vista, and it supports all the new technologies, unlike XP.

Also, Oblivion was one of the few games that actually ran BETTER on Vista than on XP. Though everything else on Vista was worse.

As for me, I will play through the game a time or two vanilla before I dive into the mods. Besides, there are no real mods for a little while immediately after release. It takes time to make them, and the really good ones take longer. A small and simple fix is the exception. I installed Khajiit night eye toggle pretty quickly after buying the game on release day.

What about mods like the Unofficial Oblivion patch, or The Lost Spires? I would hardly call those 'amateur'.

I played Morrowind and Oblivion all the way through once before installing any mods. I will probably do the same with TES V.

Never. I payed to play Bethesda's game. I don't want a bunch of amateur stuff mucking it up.

There were some fantastic mods that you missed out on. Granted, the games are enjoyable without mods, but there were some " almost essential" mods for Morrowind and Oblivion.

I just think that you should judge a game based on its own merits. If I'm forced to seek out custom fixes and content to make it enjoyable, then the game just isn't worth my time.

Same here. I own both Morrowind and Oblivion for PC. But.... Console is just so much better.

Granted, I've often thought about modding myself. I just wouldn't want to play what I created cause it would be on PC :/

People have different tastes
No game can possibly be perfect for everyone
Mods allow you to tailor those parts of an otherwise brilliant game that you don't like to your taste
They can also add a ton of extra content and greatly expand the lifespan of a game
RPGs like D&D began with people writing their own adventures using their creativity rather than just being a passive audience. Modding is in that same tradition

Well, I played Oblivion for about 1 hour before I started to mod it... however, based on Fallout 3 it looks like they learned quickly on the issue which required a mod (i.e. the fact that some items were worth 0 gold when they should have had some minute value).

I basically changed the sell value of every single item in the game in order to make weapons and armor very expensive while also giving all clutter value.

The second mod I made was about 2 hours in when I realized that not all spell effects were available for spellmaking and enchanting.

If I start the game and see a few things I don't like, like fast travel, I'll go and mod it as quickly as possible. Chances are I'll be modding the game for myself relatively soon after I get the game. But it will likely be a very long time before I start getting mods from other people. Not that I don't like mods, because I do, and my copy of Oblivion is very heavily modded, but I enjoy playing the vanilla version of the game for as long as I can.

My primary focus will be on the leveling system, so I'll probably explore around for a day, doing some quests, finding some trouble, getting a good feel for the system. If I find that it's like Oblivion where the world levels around you, as opposed to you leveling in the world, then I'll go hunting for mods to fix the calamity.

Small rats. Thats one thing I hated in Oblivion, the rats and mud crabs were huge (though not as big as Morrowind). So as soon as I see big rats or crabs, im going to find an editor and make them smaller.

I'll probably wait a few years since this peace of [censored] I'm on just runs Oblivion on max view, medium textures, and OOO. So I doubt I'll be able to play it on release unless I buy my next computer with. Then again, Rusty getting near his 5 birthday, and he just had a transplant, so it's probably time.

Well, I doubt I'll have a capable PC to play the game on, so I'll probably just have to play the console version. If I did have a capable PC though, I'd definitely want to, at the very least, complete the main quest and really just get a good overall feel of the game before modding it. And even then, I don't use many mods at all. The only mods I've running on Morrowind are a few graphics mods and GCD.

I never got that. The whole playing once (at least the main quest) before modding. I suppose failure to do so will result in madness where you don't play the game, but, whatever...

It's not so much that I want to complete the main quest before modding the game, it's more that doing so just happens to be a good way to be exposed to the game, and completing the main quest is one of the first things I do in open-world games anyway. I like to experience the game the way it was intended before changing it. I don't see why that's a hard concept.

For each game Bethesda released with a Construction Set, the less I've been using mods :P

With Morrowind I tried a bunch of mods back when it was new, and even made a couple of minor ones myself.
With Oblivion I tried a few mods and made one very minor mod myself.
With Fallout 3 I eventually tried a single mod earlier this year.

So with TES5, none? :P

i wish more people where like you, i know people think mods are fun but to be honest the game is not called the elder mods V, cant they just play the game without moding i think modding is cool until a certain extent when people are making there guys look like anime characters and killing everything in one hit, why cant they just play with minor mods as in just quest and graphics
