How long do you think you'd survive in the Mojave?

But if I was in the Mojave wasteland I would head straight for Lake Mead, for all the fresh water :D

i'd drive to manhattan, chicago, or DC, just to see if all of the movies were actually accurate or not. then i'd go to the ghetto, pick up an AK and a vest, and start stocking up on coca-cola because we all know that ice cold coca-cola heals everything including rads

it's not just some site. if you bothered to read the article it cites legitimate studies conducted on the matter. Also, there's a reason why tribesmen in deserts like the Saharan desert wear loose black clothing. If after all these years they learned to memorize locations of oasises(oasis? oasi? oases?) but not what type of clothing is ideal, then there's an issue here.
Have you ever thought that maybe that is all they have available? And it's easy to remember locations. Your remember where your house, your friends houses, and families houses are right? Why cant they remember where there oasis's are? You cant compare basic memory to something has complicated as the science behind UV rays.

Your wrong. Black absorbs light from the sun generating heat. UV Rays=heat. BUT your body does not generate light so a color would not absorb the heat. You are not thinking this through far enough. You just base it off some site.
Let's throw logic out the window for a second and forget that your body does produce light on the infrared spectrum, let's ignore the fact that I myself posted "Ok, so the idea is that yes, black abosrbs light and therefore heat. But.." and let's also skip that it appears that you didn't care enough to read the link in my post, before you felt the need to reply to me..

Starting a reply off with "Your Wrong." is a horrible way to go about things.

While I do have military training in my background, my luck I would get my head crushed by a bowling ball while walking out of Goodsprings. But, I would probably go enlist with NCR all the while dreaming of living and working on the Strip.

That's not it. Indigenous people who live in desert regions have been wearing black for thousands of years, for good reason. Obviously, otherwise they'd stop. It's not just the fact that it's black... There's other things involved too, which help make things cooler. But it's not like somebody just made this up yesterday. Do a search and look it up.

I know I would survive. My family's big on government conspiracy theories and how you can't trust them, especialy my Grandpa (10 years worth of dried food, another 20 stocked up from MREs, and enough guns and ammo to supply at least 50 people). Aside from that every man in my family has been some some branch of the miilitary (even foreign ones). I myself am a very good shot and enjoy competing in various shooting competitions, granted im a tall and thin but that just means im harder to hit. So yeah, id live (or at least thats what i like to think)

Well, I'd work my way to New Vegas and live the rest of my days there. Perhaps get a job at a casino.

we may all find out this year, 21st December 2012 :shocking:

Interesting fact, the leap year was invented somewhere around 50 AD which they (being the Aztecs, the Mayans, and everyone else with a "Calander of Doom") did not take into account. So technically speaking we should have all died 100s of years ago from "2012"

Your right because its not like my tribe who has lived in the desert for many years doesn't know any of this or anything. How about you test it for yourself.

I would probably do odd jobs for Doc Mitchell for a few years, save my caps, buy a cheap shotgun, hitch a ride with a caravan into NCR territory, and start a modest funeral home business in somewhere like the hub. (In 2 months I'll be done with my prerequisites for mortuary school)

In all likelyhood I would probably die. I don't deal with heat well.

plenty of tribes wear dark, loose fitting clothing specifically to combat heat. It's not as if I am basing this all on nothing. We can agree to disagree, if you like.

It's not just the fact that it's black... There's other things involved too, which help make things cooler. But it's not like somebody just made this up yesterday. Do a search and look it up.

White colour in desert areas are popular as if not more than black clothes is. check any pics from saudi or any other mid east north africa country, and you see that. Also they would not stop even if it would not be benefical as there is many cultural things that are being done and are just harmful to people and doesnt benefit anything. Culture wins over logic.
Sun radiates about 1000 watts of energy per square meter in equator . Human body produces about of 100 watts of useless heat? That is +900 potential, but how much black clothes absorb from it compared to white clotes, i dont know.
The article that claimed black clothes to be more cooler than white clothes is too small study and it isnt enough controlled study. Too many variables that can alter those results. But i understand logic behind that, but it would be great to see more controlled study about it. Clothes or fabric would need to be made by industrial quality and test would have to be in laboratory conditions where moisture, temperature, heat source and wind conditions could be controlled completely and accurately.

So i would wear white clothes in mojave as they are more popular in mid east anyways.

Then i would start to find all kinds of stuff from ruins and from abandoned houses. Then i would create small base to myself to some oasis or some near water source anyways and would build walls from rocks and i would put cars in only way entrance. If deathclaws would try to attack and destroy me, then i would shoot the cars and they would explode and kill every deathclaws that tries to come at me. Then i would eat them and sell their furs at local market. Then i would buy some wire cutters and additional ammunation and at night i would infiltrate helios station and steal few solar panels from there and install them at my base so i could play solitaire at my hidded base. Then i would go search for small water pump from the wastes and use the electricity to pump water from my oasis or fresh water source whatever it is, and then i would make few journeys to find empty bottles and then i would fill them with water from my base oasis and sell them with lots of bottle caps. Well, then i would be secured financially rest of my live so that is good plan i think.

i remember where my house is because i know what road it's on, what roads are near it, and what landmarks are near it. What landmarks are there in the sahara? a quick google images search brings back not much other than sand dunes, which fluctuate wildly depending on the winds, especially if there is a wind storm. Therefore, unless you propose that people give directions by telling them "walk 5 dunes, make a left, follow the valley made by the wind, and continue. If you find a rock arch you've gone too far.", it's harder than you think it is to find an oasis. I haven't done any research on it, but my personal guess is that they use the stars to navigate, similar to sailors hundreds of years ago. Also, animals don't know anything about UV rays, but they've adapted to survive as optimally as possible. Why can't humans, quite possibly the most widespread species in the world, do the same?

Back to how i'd survive, in all seriousness, i'd probably take the pistol from doc's house and find a way to get some armor and ammo, maybe by working odd jobs in goodsprings. after that, i'd probably turn into a bodyguard or a merc for caravans and settle down in novac or freeside. either that or i'd join the raiders and turn into a fallout version of scarface or the goodfellas :shifty:

Erm, I'm not too sure actually. I suppose my plan would be to stay around Goodsprings (assuming that's where I start off) and train there for a while and try to roung up a little gang (Sandy, Sandys dog, the general store guy, and quite a few others) after that i'd head over to Nipton and stay there for a while. My aim would be to get to Jacobstown. plenty of friendly supermutant and it's completely out of the way from anything really. by the time any enemies climbg the big hill to get to us they'd be pretty tired to fight a whole army of trained super mutant and nightkin. I think that'd where i'd stay perminantly. But whether I'd survive or not, I'm not too sure. I'd like to say I would but I don't think I would ... Depends on who I bump into.

3 hours hey just being realistic I have no survival skills and you also need lots of will power and I have not lived in the desert but if I could bring some one to help me I would bring Cody Lon Dean from dual survival he has lived in Arizona and teaches people how to survive in the desert.

I'd try and make my way through to the Strip, and get a job at the Tops as like, a wasteland Dean Martin type act at the Aces Theatre. Then I could spend my days crooning and boozing. That's the best case scenario. If not that I'd want to at least try and make a run for Freeside, join up with the Kings, that'd keep me safe-ish I think.

Though to be fair, bugs creep the hell out of me, so I'd probably stay in Goodsprings for fear of Bloatflies. It'd take me like, maybe two days to get over that before shooting them all dead without fault. Then I'd make my way to Primm and promptly get killed by a gecko ambush or somethin'.

Sorry haven't looked at this post in a while now then first of all IT'S NOT SAFE on road to Vegas 2nd of all YOUR NOT the courier if you walked up to the U.S. military and said I want to help you fight the Taliban but I don't want to be trained would they say yes
Yeah the road is safe, from Novac to Vegas there isn't a single insect, animal or raider on the road.

And this isn't the current day US, you can't compare it like that.

You're still comparing a military in a relatively civilized world to a military in a post-post-apocalyptic world.
And ayeah, I forgot about that gang, I stand corrected. You know what I'd do then? Go on the side of the billboard to the west and run past the ants. :goodjob:
