how i made Skyrim run like a dream

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 7:08 am

this is for people who prefer performance over quality

what i changed:

-Game settings

1024x768 resolution
texture quality - medium
radial blur quality - low
shadow detail - low
decal quantity - medium
antialiasing OFF
Anisotropic filtering OFF
draw distances dropped to about 1/3 across the bars

-Skyrimprefs (found in documents/my games/skyrim)

[Imagespace]
bDoDepthOfField=0
iRadialBlurLevel=0

[Display]
iMaxAnisotropy=0
iPresentInterval=0
bMouseAcceleration=0

[BlurShaderHDR]
bDoHighDynamicRange=0 (just found this, havent actually tried it yet but it should help)

[BlurShader]
bUseBlurShader=0

-Skyrim.ini (found in documents/my games/skyrim)

[Display]
iPresentInterval=0

[Papyrus]
iMinMemoryPageSize=100000
iMaxMemoryPageSize=5000000
iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=1800000000 (dont change this line)

im also using this mod that lets skyrim use more memory:
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=202#content

im a complete noob at this stuff but i thought it might help some people. im getting fluid framerates everywhere, even cities dont lag at all!

again, this is for people willing to sacrifice quality to gain performance. for me it has got rid of all mouse lag and increased fps. the stutter issue seems to have reduced also

Might I ask, what hardware are you running?

I may very well try the SkyrimNexus link you added - while graphics aren't run at Ultra, on my own machine, I could use the RAM boost.

Do I see a thank you reply from yourself to yourself directly after your OP? Wow....

What are you specs? I am running silky smooth on what could be considered an low average system. Occasionally I will see a little lag if I come out of something (like a menu) and spin fast tossing a spell whilst I am being charged upon by multiple beasts. But, it lasts barely a thought.

i dont need all these graphic tweaks since they make the game look less good, but i did was interested in bMouseAcceleration=0. but when i tried it out i noticed no difference in my mouse speed or accuracy at all so yeah.

With a pc like that you shouldn't have to make it look like a ps2 game to get good performance...

My bro plays on a similar system (slightly weaker) and he gets playable framerates on High settings and 1680x1050 res.
