How to make a lever start in centered position?

I have a lever that activates a dwemer lift which the player rides on. I have to run the script on a separate lever as I can't run it directly on the lift, can I? Anyway, I've positioned the lever so that it covers the existing lever on the lift and is disabled once activated so you can't see it hanging. Issue is the dwemer lift lever is always centered see shot:

... and so is the lever I use to activate the lift in CK, which is the screenshot. In game however the activate lever is swung to the pull or push position (depending which way player is facing) so two lever handles can be seen. I've considered asking somebody to make a .nif (Tamira) that doesn't have the lever on the lift but this would look silly as after the player has pulled the activate lever it then disappears. Anybody help me center this lever please? Thanks.
