I am just wondering how many available armor slots are there? I hear often people saying they are going to go 3 of one and 2 of another type and I am just wondering how many are actually available? Also, what is jewelry or other slots considered?

7 for armour, 3 for jewelry (1 amulet and 2 rings)

Head

Shoulder

Torso

Leg

Hand

Foot

Waist

And one for costume/disguise.

I wouldn't call that armour slot tho, its there for looks / quest atm.

Jewelry also isnt armor. Still a slot for it though.
