I've had a lot, but I don't really plan ahead except for getting an idea for the next one while on the current one. Couldn't tell you how many, because I go through and get rid of my old saves every so often. Once I'm done with a character, I don't go back, so there's no point in keeping them.

Edited to add: I only play one character at a time.

I only like to have one at a time. While I use this character, I'm normally planning my next.

Current:
Level 57 Nord Dragonborn (Pure Warrior). His Voice is the only form of ranged attack.

Future Characters:
Female Imperial Archer.

Only one:

Lvl 0 (yes, I'm currently resetting him) Male Nord Mystic Warrior. He relies on sword, shield and Alteration spells (including lots of custom ones). He's also an user of Restoration and Enchanting, and Heavy Armor for defense.

A lot. More than a dozen. I start new ones all the time. Sometimes I go back to old ones. I keep most of my saves but I delete some of them every once in a while, usually when I no longer remember enough about them. I've been collecting characters for years in multiple TES games.

I don't play them all every day though lol. Usually it's 4 or 5 characters over a few hours each day with 2 'main' characters that I do play more than most.

Same here, I usually have 3-5 characters going at one time. I think of it like reading books, I like to read several books over a period rather then one, bouncing back and forth between them.

I've lost count... a lot. At least 20 or so.

I usually keep 2 active at a time. Most are for RP purposes.

I've created more characters than I can count. And I plan to continue making characters as long as I have a computer that will run Skyrim.

This also applies to Morrowind and Oblivion too, by the way.

Used to have more, but nowadays I just keep 3 for each game.

First character is always an Altmer magic user.

Second character is always the native of the province, so a Nord in this case.

Third character is more flexible, basically will take on whatever is left over of the previous 2 characters.

I have two characters.

They have the same fighting styles, however.

My main character is a Nord, she is a Stormcloak and does her best to be a true hero.

My new character is an Imperial and she is a mercenary. She will help people, but only when she is getting either paid or a usable reward (She is going to be doing the Thieves guild and the Dark brotherhood quests)

I am thinking of creating a character that uses magic so I can do the mages quests, but I am not sure at the moment about that as I am not bothered about being a magic user.

That is about what I have.

I use my very first character who Oghma'd all levels to 100 to "test" new builds. I use the Black Book to sell dragon souls to move around the perks to test out what skills I want my new characters to use.

All this time I have only created two Khajiit (the vampire lord in my sig) and an empty hand badass who uses ONLY his hands and voice. I have one Argonian but is only like level 2 and barely out of Helgen.

Oh wow I feel weird, I only have two, a Nord mostly for smashing and a Khajiit mostly for sneaking. Although that is on 360, if I ever get a PC that can run Skyrim I'll be modding it up and make a few more on there ;p

LOL you are thankfully the only one ^^ After getting the game when it was released, I have only created my third character recently (My first and second were the same, I just decided that I did not want to be a Dark Elf any more)

Yeah my main one used the OI glitch too. I'm RPing him as a straight up Demi-God/Avatar anyways.

I have four at the moment.

My main level 49 Altmer female warrior

My token Nord characters: level 31 female and level 35 male. I kinda have to force myself to play them though. I don't like playing a Nord

My formerly main character, then accidentally deleted and restarted Altmer male. Level 1 :D

Essentially the only one I play regularly is my main Altmer. The Nords have been shelved for some time now and I don't bother starting a new character anymore. The chores that take place in the first few hours of play are unbearable.

I played a nord a couple times but not seriously.

I am going to complete this playthrough as much as humanly possible with my female dunmer (half nord) mage named Lilith as I am writing a journal for her.
After that I am taking a break then moving on to what will probably be my "true" dovahkiin, a female daughter of a reachwoman and a nord (also mage).

Both these are good characters so eventually I'll play an assassin (witch-hunter).
