How Many Dragons is too many?

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 5:22 am

If each dragon unlocks one word in a shout, and each shout is built up of 3 words, and there is 20 shouts, we will se 60 Dragons in total.

60 boss Dragons, with commonly encountered dragonlings, with common dragons that are stronger than the dragonlings, but not as strong as the bosses.

Only 10-15 boss dragons in the main quest, though. of course they aren't flying around at the same time, only a few at first and then more as you level up.

Well since the slaying of Dragons is linked to our absorbing their souls, and that is a key component to the game, I imagine the number of dragons will depend on how many should we need for dragon shout reasons. That being said, for some reason I'm cool with 10 Dragon kills. To me that number would ensure they remain a unique encounter.

This is very good point. Would it be too hard to collect all the dragon shout skills if dragons are too rare? Will we be forced to specialize in some way? Some will be given to us specifically through quests, but, not all.

What was it with dragon shouts? Three levels? Or did that have to do with charging the shout.

This I didn't quite think of, dragons are now an integral part of skill leveling.

I am glad that someone made a thread about this I was just about to, I did read most of the thread and I agree with the OP & disagree/agree with some other post.

I understand how dragons are going to work in this game enough to make this statement, firstly Todd already said that creatures in the game like a dragon out in the open can be avoided or could fly right over you & not attack. He also mentioned creatures like giants ignoring you unless provoked. So too many dragons being annoying will not be the case while traveling around in Skyrim, that part confirmed.

But moving on to the main subject,

The more dragons the less uniqueness to them, the less epic they will be when you encounter them and likely the less harder they will be to fight. Say if there was only 5 dragons that spawned in the entire open world at a time, they are going to make those 5 dragons most likely harder then say having 20 - 40 dragons spawned at a time. 20 - 40 dragons is a lot of dragons spawned at one given time in the open world. 10 - 12 dragons spawned in the open world at one given time (open world = noneclosed indoor area's or instences etc) is a good number. If I had it my way only 5 dragons would be spawned at a time until later toward the end of the game.

The first ingame dragon you see in the game should be very epic, it should be one of the first dragons to start appearing in the world. When you go back to the nearest town everyone should be freaking out and in disbelief that you even fought a dragon and or that they are really here. its gotta have some kind of "Oh my gawd this is really happening" feeling to it regardless of the fact the games main thing is dragons.

The more the game builds up to the dragons the better, I mean you should do a lot of interacting with the world, fight all sorts of creatures etc before even seeing your first dragon.

This has been said, but I think that the dragons are unlimited personally, or that there will be a large, yet limited amount of them. I dont think there will be 100 dragons exploring the world at any time, but I wouldnt be surprised if there were 100 dragons and they were limited in how many appeared at once.

I doubt there will be a limit for rats, or giants, or any creature really.

I certainly hope that at some point I havent killed ALL the dragons in the game. Game over at that point, right? Or do I go back to hunting mudcrabs?

...Beth sent their best people to work on dragons for 2 years...and you want to put a limit on how many there are? My goodness they better be unlimited. Bring em on. This isn't a linear game. If I chill around the point in the main quest where Aldiun is about to come, there best be dragons roaming around everywhere and I should meet one at elast once every two hours.

There is no such thing as too many when it comes to the beautifully animated dragons I saw in the trailer. Bethesda should proudly show off their creation by allowing infinite numbers of dragons to be fought with any single character. I don't want them to gang up on me like cliffracers and I don't want them to be everywhere, but I would be very sad to lose such an awesome opponent on my main character. Have them respawn but keep them far apart from one another, or something such as that. I never want to stop having the chance to take down dragons.
