How many frames is enough?

This post is to ask a question, if you don't want to read all the info I put here (relating to WHY I asked the questions) you can just skip down, I didn't hide it in all the info.

I used to own a crappy computer with an HD3870, windows vista, 3GB of ram and I played Crysis on medium settings at 1360x1024, this was my first real computer. I have no idea how many frames I was running it as, I was still very new to PC gaming at the time.

My new system consists of
Windows 7
2nd Gen. Intel i7-2600 (3.4Ghz)
XFX HD6870
8 GB RAM.

In my current library consists of Half Life 2(and other source games, like Portal, Portal 2 and CS:Source), Mass Effect 2, Farcry 2, Fallout 3 and Fallout NV, the Sims 3, Deus Ex Human Revolution, and lastly: Crysis and Crysis 2.

On every game in that last, I can run every game up there except Crysis and Crysis 2, maxed, in 1080p (with vsync on) and get a solid 60fps that doesn't budge.
*Crysis 2 runs in 1080p on all high and some very high settings in DX 11 with hi-res texture pack, but still at a solid 60 frames (with vsync on), but still, running a game visually perfect at 60 frames.

****The Question****
What is the lowest FPS you can have, that can be considered 'good?'
I'm defining good as: You have nothing to complain about.

I can run Crysis in 1080p in DX10 MAXED everything except AA, and sit pretty steady at 40fps (with vsync on), dropping down occasionally to 30 frames, it has yet to drop below 30.

Is 60 a bit exessive? When should I be thankful? I know it seems silly but I feel like I've been spoiled by FPS, I can feel the smoothness of 60fps, but given at how demanding Crysis is, with everything maxed, is 30-40 good?
I just hate it because I remember when I was thankful to even PLAY Crysis, now I just stare at my FRAPS meter sighing.

Thanks for reading.

Yes, its good in my opinion. A minimum of 30 FPS is good for playing.

For single player and not very fast paced games, 30 FPS is OK, but I feel much more comfortable around 40 FPS. For fast paced multiplayer games such as Crysis 2 the higher, the better, but as most monitors can't show more than 60 FPS, if you can have a steady 60 FPS that's great.

Yup, the original Crysis is the only game I can't mindlessly jack up graphics on. I guess I'm also failing to consider the Beast that is Crysis, and CryEngine 2. I'm just trying to gauge future performance, I don't think I could handle another 'Crysis' like benchmark game, but I played the Battlefield 3 beta on all high settings in 1080p on the Caspian Border map (if you don't know what I'm talking about... it's a huge map) and I was only dropping down to about 48 in huge fights. Skyrim and Battlefield 3 are around the corner I just wanna know my computer can handle them, so I try and run crysis.

I can get a minimum of 40fps if I put all the settings on High, but jack the shadows down to medium and the textures up to very high. I get the feeling that Crysis wasn't optimized as well as it should have been, if I can run Battlefield 3 the way I could in beta.

There is no DX 10 engine included.

Oh and your PC... totally overpowerd useless CPU vs. a rather slow graphic card. I'd rather buy a i5-2500 and a 570/6970. Not one game is able to use to use the full capacity of the CPU. Even 2500 is far enough.

Phenom II X4 940
HD 5850

DX11 on Extreme around 40-50 FPS.
