How many hours did you play after switching to a PC?

Post » Wed Mar 11, 2015 11:48 am

I really want to hear from the folks that played Skyrim on a console for many, many hours (say 2500 hours) and then decided to switch to a moded game on the PC. How many hours did you play Skyrim after the switch?

I keep going back and forth on whether or not it's worth the time and effort (never mind money for now) to switch from my Xbox to a PC. I know the vast, vast majority of you swear by your moded PC Skyrims but I'm wondering if anyone went through only to find it regretable.

I've gat 3000 hours on the console and I'm pretty skeptical that I'll do another 3000 hours on the PC. Maybe it's more of a question of quality instead of quantity?

Please share your experiences.

I haven't played on a console, but I imagine it wouldn't affect how many hours I played on PC afterwards. I would think playing on a PC would be a different experience.

I've played TES games(I include Fallout 3 also) on both console and PC since Morrowind, and it's been the same for me on either platform.

Even now I play Skyrim on both console and PC .

Steam says I have 893 hours, which isn't counting the amount I played offline.

I feel like I have more of a drive to play it on the PC, but on the other hand I'm making less characters and just replaying old ones unlike the 360 version where I experimented more often.

I haven't gone back to the console version, so chances are I'm going to play much more than I did on the console.

What do you mean? How many hours I actually played the game or how many hours I spent in the game tinkering with settings and mods? none I'm still on 360 but I will be getting a laptop soon hopefully it can play skyrim.

Hi KAMI,

I have 2000+ hours in Skyrim, ~1500 in NV and ~1000 in FO3 on the PS3. Last year I built my first gaming PC, specs in my sig, and have ~300 hours in my first Skyrim on PC with mods playthru (lvl65).

I also have FO3 and NV modded as well with about 200 hours in each.

I am still in the trying mods to see if I will like them phase. I am slowly narrowing it down.

It has been tons of fun and I would do it again. Well worth every penny for the new games and machine.

You will want to sign up for a free Steam account and Nexus Mod Manager account.

I highly recommend Gophers videos on youtube for The beginners guide to modding Skyrim.

Love your 360 controller? No problem these 3 Bethesda games are buttery smooth with the 360/XBO controller.

Warning: Some PC games have no gamepad support or the support is so bad the games can't be played with any emersion.

This has been the only down side I have found switching to the PC.

I just refuse to assume my work position to play a game with K&M not to mention the lose of duel shock feedback. Only a console player knows how important that is, haha

Always research if the game has gamepad support and don't just trust one source. I've been lied to many times by fans of a game.

How many hours you played the game. You raise a good point, though - how much time do people spend tinkering? I assume that's a bottomless hole, you can tinker forever without playing for any length of time longer than it takes to test whatever it is with which you tinkered.

By the way, the research I've done and the feedback from the community strongly suggests a laptop won't be able to hack Skyrim. The graphics processors alone are too hot and big (check out the pictures on newegg.com). The cards have their own dedicated cooling (sometimes with two fans!). Just take a look at this list of top 10 gamer rigs for 2015: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2393552,00.asp

Good luck and thanks.

This is a scary time to buy a new gaming PC. Just look at the specs required for Ultra quality/1080/60FPS on the upcoming Witcher as an example.

I would not use a 4 year old game designed around last gen consoles to determine what is need for all the new games coming in 2015/16

Heck we might even see FO4 this year. I just built my machine 7 months ago and worry I won't be able to play FO4 on max setting.

Thanks for both this feedback and your previous, more detailed, post. S, in summary, you think you've spent more time tinkering than playing? That's interesting, I didn't really anticipate this, but it makes sense.

I know, from preivous threads, that PC players can have different games saved simultaneously so they can tinker, play immersively, play OP to have fun, or play one-off quests/challenges. It must take time to get all that set-up and organized.

So, switch to PC and play-time goes down, but overall time spent on the game goes up.

My experience is that it varies widely. Some players put together one mod list that is stable and which satisfies their needs and don't tinker much with it after that. Others ticker obsessively. I would say each player's experience with mods is as different as the players themselves.

That sounds like what I'd do - do people publish such lists? That way, someone new like me, doesn't have to start from scratch.

Maybe at first just to get your gaming PC optimized for gaming. They you will want to test out mods to see if you like them. I usually only test one at a time.

Then you finely settle down and do a playthru but this time many of the little things that bugged you in the vanilla game aren't there anymore because you have mods that fixes them

and you have new places to go bigger and just as wonderful as the DLCs. Want a peak?

Oh, you are welcome I hope I've helped. Everything I know about PC gaming I have learned here on this forum you will never meet a better bunch of guys and gals to help you thru the switch.

We're often asked to post our mod lists in the mods forum. Scrutinizing other player's mod lists is endlessly fascinating to some of us. I love looking at them myself. I often find mods I've never heard of when I look through other player's mod lists.

We're a lot like the people who look at all your books or CDs when they come to your house. :D

I 've never played console, but I've got quite a few mods but I really spend very little time tinkering except... I like to make mods on occasion, and that's where I see the big advantage over console. My game is completely unique... and I've got 4500+ hours spent playing.

I have no idea how long I have played Skyrim on the PC since I play Offline.

I just got a console(360) a couple of months ago and have been playing on and off the 360 and the Pc version. Both are fun.
